Well I put off building my woodshed another year, too many things have come up and I dont want to rush it before rainy weather comes for the fall season. I have been concerened about what I'm going to use to cover this year, I currently use left over particle board but it's obviously going bad pretty quick. My stacks for this years use are close to my house and I don't really want to see tarps flapping everyday when I go by (at least dont want to hear how my wife doesnt like it ha). Scrap metal roofing is hard to come by around here too because people haul of scrap for their living it seems anymore.

So, after reading Scotty's thread a while back about his rubber roofing I figured that was a way to go. Called all the roofing places in the three closest towns looking for scraps and none would come off of it for a price I wanted to pay so I was back to ordering tarps. But my daily glances at CL's barter section paid off yesterday. I found the plastic sheeting picutred below. 5/32" thick, 4foot wide and just short of 100foot long. All this for my old craftsman chainsaw that was in the corner of the garage collecting dust (only go for about 75 barely used anymore).

Just had to share my Cover Score with you all since none of my work friends can understand my excitement over such a good deal on a roll of plastic.

Yeah I'm hoping it will last a while. The plan is to lay it across the the particle board I currently use on top and then use metal roofing screws with washers to fasten it. It will make it easily removable and reusable when I restack in my "holding" area.

a great score. interesting to see how long it hold up vs tarps. i'd bet a lot longer. PLUS..its gonna allow the sun thru to cook your stacks!

Great find.....I love Craigs List.

that looks awesome....need to score myself some of that.

I was on my way home from work one night....heard over the CB a trucker callin' out if anybody lost thier Tarp....nobody answered....I asked where it was, and he said it looked brand new, and nobody is claiming it....go ahaead and grab it....so I jumped off the next exit, did a flip to the westbound side and found a BIG HEAVY DUTY Tarp....I have yet to unroll it, but it is big, and, oh my God, heavy....probably use it to cover my wood shed project in the spring

Nice score! That looks like industrial curtain material, that'll last for decades. If the your going to cover OSB and use screws to fasten it, maybe look into TEK screws (the screws used to install metal roofing). Those screws have a rubber gasket and a washer pre-installed on them that will keep any water from weeping through the holes you make in that material. Try to use the same screw holes every year and you'll be set for a long time to come. Pics of the install, please! (You know how it goes!);)

those are the screws I will be using, already have a bunch at the house. Pics will follow shortly have a busy weekend though so it may be into next week.

I had the same thoughts, do you know where the guy got thet BA?

He told me he received it as scrap that a large manufacturing company purchased for an assembly line enclosure. He said it is pretty expensive stuff and that's why he picked it in the first place. Worked out for both of us I guess.

Looks like tough stuff.
If you can keep it from flapping it should last a while.
Good luck.

I'll bet it will work as good as rubber roofing. The freezing temperatures should not bother it. You made a nice deal!
