Well, as of 5:30 this evening, I have next year's wood supply locked up. Yes, I hedged the wood market by ordering 3 cord of wood to be delivered next spring... at the whopping price of 500 dollars, or 166/cord. My wood guy stopped by the house while he was delivering a half cord to the masonry fireplace owning neighbors. We sat out back while the sun set, popped a few brews, watched the water, and I started posing a few questions about the wood market. It seemed that his largest concern was either having not enough wood for his customers, or getting stuck with too much wood, and therefore not knowing how much to split. My Wall St. financiolegalinternet background started thinking, and I said... solve the man's problems, drop him an offer, now. He took it. Done. Wood to be delivered in spring 2007, at my convenience. He has from now until April or so to cut and split, and I know it will be pretty much seasoned up by the time we have this conversation in 365 days.
Soooooooo..... my Chardonnay induced words of wisdom to the group... hit your wood man up early, you'll become their best friend, and get cheaper wood in the process.
