Sorry I ment Damper!! I just finished my Mansfield install. I used Metal-fab double wall right off the stove and they do not sell a damper option. So can I install an aftermarket one? Or with Metal-fab am I stuck? I asked the place where I bought the pipe from and they did not know about an aftermarket damper install.

Thanks Dave

Are you saying that "Metal-fab" is the manufacturer of the double wall stove/connector pipe...and that Metal-fab does not manufacture Class A chimney sections to mate with the double wall stove/connector pipe?

No, Metal-fab does not make a damper section to go into their double-wall pipe [black]. Off the top of the stove.

My metal-fab converts to class A in the ceiling support box.

How tall is the pipe Dave and is it straight up?

Dave, most times you should be okay without the damper. And please allow me to welcome you to the forum as I'm sure somehow I missed you before today.

When I had my hearthstone heritage I found great need for a damper. These things dump lots of heat to the chimney. My chimney was very good but only 14 feet or so and it could overdraft quite easily. I bought and attempted to install a pipe damper section of double wall but these sections are called "appliance adapters" and are meant to fit the tight taper of a steel flue collar. The cast iron collar of the hearthstone is not compatible with an appliance adapter, only shoving the double wwall right in. This to say that you might not get a damper section to work anyway so you may want to figure out another system to limit your draft.

Perhaps a flap over the inake of the stove?

Pictures Dave we need pics! I installed a damper in the stove top adapter I found it fairly simple to do.

Well I had my break-in fire tonight. What an awesome stove!! I could see moisture coming out of the stones inside! In the morning I will be starting a good medium fire. It is hard for for me to do pics right now. We are getting the new home final inspected this week and there is lots to do. I did notice how much I could cut down on the primary and still maintain a good burn. any more info or advise on getting a damper in line would be of great help.

Once the stove is running right, the very lowest settings will provide the most heat.

You'll need a 6" damper for the damper and a 7 or 8" damper for the rod. If you use the 8" rod you'll also need a bigger spring. Measure up to wear you want it located and mark around the pipe and mark where you want one hole we'll call that hole A. Then measure around the pipe from A, divide the circumference by 2 and there's your distance from hole A to hole B. Mark hole B and remeasure and then drill. It's easier to drill with a board in the pipe to support it and the stainless can be a bit of a pain.

Hope this makes sence if you need my measurements or pics let me know. I'm sure you'll love your stove I love mine. Here's some threads worth reading.
