Dex all you do is take the removable plate off and bolt the AC30 on in its place.

i think he was talking about if he wanted to install a 16

Ah OK. Then he has two steps to take. When he mods that plate he needs to put a deflector in it to turn the air up through the heat shield. Without that the 16 will just blow the air straight into the back of the stove body and it could just as well go down as up. Or 1/2 each way.

This is my first post to the site, although i have been hanging around for about 6 months. I finally decided to sell the Fisher Papa Bear. After reading all the great info for the past 6 months i bought the Englander 30 NCH. Last night was the first burn and i have to say the stove is fantastic, it will really pump out some heat and the secondary burns are very nice. I am also very impressed with the burn time, went to bed around 9 and only put two pieces of cherry on as i am still getting used to how it burns (stove top was around 575) woke up around 5:30 raked it around and still had hot coals:). Great site with lots of useful info and so far it seems to be a great stove.

Nice install.

Hi All

Just wanted to make some comments and ask if anybody has any comments about the AC-30. I've been blowing a fan on my stove so far and really want to get a blower but I've seen some reviews that claim the unit wasn't made too well and since

I've had a 30NCP for about 3 years now and overall it seems like a pretty good unit, efficient and doesn't seem to crud up the chimney like some stoves. The chimney I have is a little bit longer than recomended but I haven't had any trouble with draft, in fact it draws pretty well. I used double wall and ran the chimney trhough the wall since I have a three story house, The only real complaint about the stove I have so far concerns the Ceramic fiber boards which I had to replace and that are very expensive, $60 each for a total of $120. I bought the stove used so I wasn't too surprised at having to replace them, except for the cost, but the new ones I bought shrank quite a bit the first season and there is a gap on both sides when I push the two boards together in the middle. For $120 I think this should not happen as it does affect the airflow somewhat and the stoves efficiency. Its not terrible and the stove still works, just not as good as when the boards were new and some of the exhaust goes up the sides instead of up the front of the stove like its supposed to which afffects the burn a bit and in turn fuel efficiency. I can't see replacing these every year when they cost $120, thats just cost prohibitive in my view. It seems to me that England stoves could come up with a better solution or improve these boards so they don't shrink so drastically..

As to the AC-30 blower, I've been blowing a fan on my stove so far and really want to get a blower but I've seen some reviews that claim the unit wasn't made too well, bolts falling ouot, holes made too large etc. and since I have had some issues with the ceramic fiber boards I want to get some input before I spent the money. Most the reviews were at least moderatly positive and sometimes people just get a lemon so more input seemed prudent. Anyway FYI I did notice it was about $20 cheaper to buy directly from England stoves.

You can buy those ceramic boards on Ebay.

If your boards are not damaged but just shrunk a little, buy you some of the ceramic Kaowool blanket off ebay. Alot of stoves already use the ceramic blanket. They put it on top of the baffle board and cut it slightly larger to fill the gaps around the edges of the baffle board. I'd say use the 1" thick Kaowool. Lay you a couple pieces of 3/8 dia black pipe cut to size on top of the koawool to keep it from moving around.

Plus the extra layer of insulation like many stoves already have , improves the ability of the secondaries to keep firing at low settings of the air input. It will help keep the heat up around those burn tubes.

The boards were that size to begin with. Lots of 30-NC owners here. Some of us bought a board off ebay and added a layer, someput a small strip on one side (push boards over to one side), or get a 3/8" round gasket and put a 1/4" steel rod in it (cut to length).

Its been a known problem with Englanders. Minor in my opinion. But it does need attention.

As for the blower, I just got one this year. Wish i would have done it sooner. Jury is still out on its lifespan, but it does help a lot with the convection.
