Its my first year burning and I had a couple of fires already. Im thinking I need to find a pair of gloves so I can load the stove without burning my hands and also to pick up any logs that happen to roll out of the insert. What should I be looking for will just any leather gloves do?

Welding gloves. Also work great when tending BBQ.

We get the cheap welding gloves from Home Cheapo and they last for several years. We always use the gloves when putting wood in the stove.

I will have to remember that

Cheap welding gloves from any hardware store will work for most uses . . .

That said . . . I was given some nice, insulated gloves from a local stove shop after they came one year to our Fire Prevention Week Open House. Those are nice for when I'm handling something that is wicked hot like an ash pan . . . or cast iron frying pan after it's been on the coals for awhile.

Harbor Freight welding gloves, three pairs for ten bucks. Also useful for the smoker and grill. Still on the first pair for the stove, another all black and greasy from cooking, and a new pair in reserve.
