Hi, I have an old Morso model 1124 (with glass in doors). I cannot find a pic online, but it is very similar to the 1126 but with smaller glass area. It has "fins" on the sides like the 1126.

Is there any way to find out for sure if my 1124 is convection or radiant stove? I LOVE this stove, but it's just too tired. I would simply buy the Morso 1126 but it doesn’t appear to be available in the US. ??? The 1126 is convection and because of the similarities, I’m assuming mine is, too. So I am looking at replacing it with a Scan 10 or Morso 3440 - convection. Any opinions on which might more closely match my old one or the 1126? I don’t want a stove made in China. Are either of these (I can't seem to see that info online)?

Any other recommendations of European style stoves that have solid sides and not four legs (no pedestals)? It’s freestanding, center of room. Outside air intake isn't possible, but have a 2 story + chimney so draw has never been a problem.

Thanks for your help!

I haven't seen one in person, but in a picture it looks like the 1124 may be a radiant stove. If so, the difference between it and the 1126 would be that the 1126 has an outer jacket and slots around the perimeter of the top that vent the heat. Does the 1124 have this feature? Here's a drawing of the 1126 that clearly shows those slots. Click on it to see the full size image.

Oh, I didn't notice that on the 1126. No, my 1124 has those "fins" but no holes. Hmm. I love the way it heats the room so maybe I should be looking at radiant instead? Thanks.

I would consider the Morso 2110 then if you are in the states. It's a good stove and is radiant.

Thanks for the recommendation, but I don't want legs...maybe a convection will be fine? I just don't want the air to get too stifling if I have it cranked up. So, is a convection stove also radiant, or does the outer shell cut down on the radiant factor and really just mostly heat the air? This is so confusing...no wonder I have kept this stove for 30 years.

It's pretty simple. You feel radiant heat out the front of either stove. But from the sides of the stove you will be able to get closer without so much intensity of heat. This usually means a convective stove can be place closer to walls with reduced clearances. Lots of people don't notice the difference. Are you only looking at Morso stoves?

Okay, thanks for that info. I'm so attached to this stove, everyone who sees it or experiences the heat from it comments on it. It just seems different than any other stove I've owned (a Fisher a gazillion years ago and a Vermont Castings for a short while).

I would consider ANY brand as long as it's not made in China. But the stove sits right in the center of my open floor plan living/dining/kitchen and is definitely the focal point. It's tall, 34" and narrow, 21" so I don't want short and squat or too wide (which will take up too much room. Plus, no legs, as the way the foot traffic flows around the stove, I don't want anything even slightly flared feet or with sharp corners. The Morso 1126 would be perfect; I've written to Morso to see if they have any plans for selling in USA. But the other Morso that meets my aesthetic criteria is the 3440 - it's okay but not beautiful.

So the Scan 10 seems to be my other best choice, unless there is something out there I am missing? I can't quite figure out the dimensions in inches...they are in some other math language I don't speak. Would you (or anyone reading this) choose the Morso 3440 or the Scan 10, based on what you've seen, heard, know?

I really appreciate your help and interest.

I had never seen the 2110 before...nice-looking stove! It appears more squat but comparing dimensions, the footprints are similar. I looked at the drawings in the tech details section at the Morso site, and the legs appear to be inside of the box dimensions; I don't think they would obstruct traffic. I think I like the more open look with the legs, actually, but you might want a more contemporary look.
We are heating our main room, about 25 x 28', with a radiant heater. You can feel the radiant heat on the opposite end of the room from the stove. I don't know how much total area you're trying to heat with the stove but the 2110 appears to have quite a bit more output than the 1126.

This is so confusing...
There are more stoves out there than you can shake a stick at. ==c

Wow, thank you all, there are some great options here. I'm going to print out some info and compare them all and try to see some of them in person. I'm intrigued by the Rais with the turntable option. Wouldn't i love to be able to turn the stove so the fire faces the dining room when we are at the table and then back to the living room. Wow! Does anyone have experience with this?

I also like the Morso 2110 - not exactly what I was looking for but think I'd probably learn to love it.

I have a 2,000 sq ft house but it's 2 story and zoned nicely so I can either heat just the downstairs (1000) and leave the bedrooms upstairs unheated, or open the doors and let heat go up. I usually just heat about the main 800 sq ft, but I like it HOT. When it gets too hot, I open the bedroom doors to cool things down; if the power is off I can keep the main living areas toasty and also can cook on it.

Is there any problem cooking on a convection vs the radiant, steel vs cast iron?

Sorry, I keep having more questions! Thanks so much.

I've burned in the 2110 and it is a nice heater. You can cook on it with no problem.

Thank you begreen. Good to know. I was going to go look at some different ones today but all the dealers in my area were closed so it will have to wait until next week.
