i have a fieldstone fireplace were im going to put a woodstove i need to make a hearth extension and need to chisel some on the rocks away to make the box fit tight. any one know how hard it will be to use a chisel and hammer to bust them out? never done it before so some insight on the masonry work would be great

Its not hard to do if you cut a line in the rock with a diamond masonry saw blade. I used a circular and hand grinder to cut through some field-stone. I then had a thin ended chisel to wedge in the grove I cut. It should break on the grove line.
