Saturday night dipped into the 30's so I decided it was time to see what the Osburn 2000 insert could do.. I started off with a load of kindling with a couple small splits on top to get things going. Then after the stove was good and hot this was 9pm I loaded up six small to medium ash splits e/w with room for more. The stove took off and after making my air adjustments it was cruising around 650 stove top temp with a great display of secondaries, I got up a 6am and looked at it and I still had a great coal bed and the unit was still blowing a fair amount of heat and then I went back to bed. The wife got up at 9am for work and while drinking her coffee the blower turned off and she didnt know why so she come and told me, no big deal. I got up at ten and the coals were starting to die out, then at noon the last coal finally died. The house temp on the central air pad did hit 80 degrees at one point.

Congrats glad you like it.

Going to be a long time yet here.... Did get down to 45F last night, but when I woke in the morning the living room was still at 70. It wont be till the daytime highs start to dip down into the 50s (or low 60s and overcast) that we loose enough heat overnight to need heat. It amazing what good southern exposure and a sunny weather can do for even a modestly insulated house.

And we are still on dirt cheap summer natgas rates till Halloween... so as usual no burning for me until November.

Living vicariously though y'all till then................

Haven't lit the stove yet....Wife is itchin' to get it going, but is holding off as much as possible....maybe this week....temps at night are starting to go down

All of these first fires....this isn't a good thing is it? I mean last year we didn't have to fire it up until almost November! But tonight it is getting down to around 39 here so I'll probably fire mine up a bit. But I'm guessing we are going to be quite happy that we have wood stoves this winter. Well that and snow blowers....

This winter is going to be a lot different then last winter.

The vast majority of the 'bashing' is in regards to their non-epa stoves. The boxwood stoves, specifically. There has only been some quality control issues reported (with the insert, I believe) with the EPA stoves.

I thought most of the 'bashing' was in regard to their practice of deceptively advertising their "EPA exempt" (i.e. "non-EPA") stoves as "EPA Certified Woodstove".

why was this post moved here? This post was intended for performance imformation to new Osburn owners.

I'm confused by your confusion. Did the post originally say something else?

i started a new post for osburn operators to view and it got moved by someone to this thread. There have been a few of us who bought either the 2000 or 2400 this summer and i wanted to share my experience

Hey my bad etiger. It was getting so that half the new posts were the same "I just started up my stove" topic so I did a mass migration into one title. Yours got caught up in the sweep. Looks like I can't undo that action so feel free to post a full report on the insert, with pics of course.

no worries begreen, i just wanted to start a thread so those of us who bought osburns can share info. thanks and ill repost

it got cold enough to start the wood stove. post pix's of your first fire of the year:) im burning some 2 year old white pine and red ceader

Yep, join the crowd. Lots of folks are lighting up right now.

This winter is going to be a lot different then last winter.

I'm picturing blizzards, thick ice on the streets, horrific winds, and temps below zero here in eastern PA and we haven't had that in over a decade.

Back in either 94 or 96...we had that... life would be fun now, but it royally sucked back then. Luckily we had an Osburn insert to keep us from freezing.

That sounds rough.

The lowest temp i have seen here 10.

Came home tonight from coaching my daughter's soccer team with a chill to the bone....walked by the stove and just had to light the fire....enjoying the first fire of the season smell in the house...that nice moist heat coming up from the basement. Let another burning season commence!

Yup, '96.... Major ice storm, and what was it 4' snow? That storm last year in october, just a foot of snow, but I evacuated my house from all the trees falling! It looked like a tornado came through. 6 days no power in my neck if the woods. I cut up all the wood, and said, now I need a woodstove, and burning that wood as we speak. And if course, stumbled upon hearth.com. Thx mother nature!

The trees....oh yes! See as a kid the development was just saplings at the time. 20-30 years later, and my wife and I moved a few neighborhoods over and the trees are monsters. The power lines MIGHT catch a branch or two as happened last year. But if the big oak fell on is or looked like it was going to....AND there was a blizzard/ice/etc. we'd be huddled in the basement for sure.

But that'd be something!

So it was 96' eh? All I remember was that I was in 5th grade at the time.

Yep that time is approaching...we had a little cool weather and all you could hear around us were gunshots and chainsaws running all weekend...ha
I have everything ready to fire up the stove...even went so far as to pick the wood for the first load...ha

Lit ours this morning....63* in the house....threw in a pice of Maple, Cherry, and even a piece of Hickory as a test to see if I'm good to go on my stacks. Everything seemed to burn well....Cherry had a little sizzle, but it was a little wet going in (got rained on), as the fire burned down, I threw in another, bigger piece of Maple....went right up.....feeling good about this season....had the house up to 70* fairly quick, and the stove temps went up quicker than last year....almost 600* without any effort, and just a few sticks.
