I recently acquired a Breckwell P2000 pellet stove. The only problem with it is the auger motor doesn't spin. I am only getting 86 volts AC to the auger motor. Is this a symptom of a bad circuit board?

First welcome to the forum, second if you aren't comfortable working with electricity don't attempt what I'm offering for troubleshooting information as mistakes here can be fatal.

Does the auger motor work when directly connected to 120 and don't directly connect it without first removing power from the stove by unplugging it and the auger motor.

Usually the issue with auger motors not turning is the vacuum switch isn't staying closed or the high limit has tripped.

You can eliminate the vacuum switch by bypassing it with a jumper.

The tripped high limit is usually something you can reset (small red button on the snap disc).

It can also happen due to the auger being jammed up or the control board being bad.

The auger motor works when directly hooked up to a 120v source.

I completely cleaned the auger itself to make sure it was free of any jammed pellets. I can spin it freely by hand when it's not connected to the auger motor.

I will check to see if the high limit disc has popped.

Thank you so much for your help

Don't forget to make sure the vacuum line is free, it is possible for that line to cause on and off again power to the auger motor.

It is also possible that the auger motor can turn but not turn the auger, this is usually a set screw in the coupling that joins the auger to the motor.

Yes. I will check to make sure the vacuum line is not clogged and will jump it out if necessary.

I just picked this stove up yesterday. It was free. If I place a handful of pellets in the burn pot and press the on button it lights up within a minute. It doesn't stay lit because the auger motor doesn't turn.

This is without a doubt the cleanest pellet stove I have ever seen.

Thanks again. I appreciate all the info

I checked the vacuum hose. It is clear. I jumped out the vacuum switch. There is no red reset on the high limit disc. I checked for continuity thru it and it is intact. I am still only getting 88 volts to the auger motor

Then you likely have a control board issue.

Would you please measure that voltage without the load of the auger motor.

If you can, would you take a detailed picture of the control board component side and post it.

It is possible that you have a fried triac on the board and there are folks on here that frequently can tell what's what from a picture.

Are you sure that auger motor turns when not connected to the auger, it is also possible that it is the problem. The grease in them can dry up and when under load not cause the auger to revolve.

I just hooked up the auger motor directly to a 115v source. It spun the auger for 2 minutes without a problem. I took the auger motor apart yesterday. The grease and gears are in good condition.

Can you provide the information on current draw for that motor?

jtakeman or Eric what's the current limit for the auger motor on the P2000?

You've just exceeded my technical ability. There's usually a sticker on the motor with all the technical details, but this one does not.

I have another pellet stove(not a breckwell). I took the auger motor from that one and installed it in the breckwell. I ended up with the same results...88v at the auger motor.

I really appreciate all your help. Seeing as I didn't pay a dime for this stove I really hope we can get it working.

What is a Triac? I'm pretty handy so if you talk me thru what needs to be done I think we'll get it running. I tried to upload a pix of the circuit board but I don't think it worked.

You need to trace the power line from the auger motor through the molex connector on the circuit board to the trace and from there to the triac (it is a little square device with three legs and usually layed out in a two by two square of similar devices).
Remove and replace (reference pictures here http://www.google.com/search?q=triac+picture ).

They should cost around $2.00.

There should be a makers mark and number on the triac you get them from an electronics supply place. At one time I had a number of catalogs but I don't follow that stuff these days. Radio Shack may have something that would be cross referenced as a replacement or equivalent.

Digikey, JDR MIcrodevices, and a host of others carried all kinds of electronic items I don't even know if they are in business these days.

I learned the hard way to unplug my stove during the summer months. We can get some pretty wicked thunderstorms here in NY and to lose power or get power surges is very common.

I'm going to try my hand at replacing a Triac. Might as well spend $7 on some parts than $270 on a new board

Hello

I just picked up a P2000 also. I am working on it. You are lucky to get it cheap. They are very good stoves. :) Does it have the Brass Door and Cowels?
What is the Manufacturing Date? It should be on the label in the hopper lid.

The P2000 has been around since 1996 and they are still making it! It has had a manual knob control panel and 2 digital panels. The older stoves had 4 RPM auger motors and the newer stoves have 1 RPM auger motors. I am also an authorized Breckwell parts dealer so if you need any you can do a conversation with me in your inbox.

So please find the Date and take a pic of the control panel so we know more about the stove.
Thanks Don

Hii Don,

The stove has Brass Trim. The manufacture date is July 1996. Model # P-2000FS Serial # WH98-11164. It is a digital control panel.

I am trying to figure out how to post a pix. I have cropped the pix down and it lists it as an attachment but it doesn't appear to be working.

Thanks for your help.
