Thanks for sharing

I would have cut my leg off within the first couple of steps in the process.

Wow in under 5 minutes too.

Impressive, but I think if I break a handle I will run down to the hardware store....that video made me too tired!

well fellas -

its not a lost art. all the the tools and techniques that he used are employed in bowmaking. if you can make a longbow from a tree trunk (i mean one that actually shoots arrows) an axe handle is a piece of cake. i hand made replacement handles for my tomahawks for years, experimenting with all kinds of wood. only hickory stands up to repeated punishment.

and yes its a cool video. thanks for posting it pallet pete.

Axe/hatchet,other tool handles are a piece of cake with several sharp drawknifes,a spokeshave or two, cabinet scraper (either a commercial one or homemade one from a worn out vintage handsaw blade.Been using these wonderful tools since I was 15 yrs old.You develop lots more patience as you get older.....

Benches, chairs other furniture are more complex & take more thinking time....

Think I'll just make a handle real quick before I chop wood. Amazing and I think the music is great as well.

But how did he make the first axe?

There are several local gentlemen who still hand hew beams. One does it at harvest shows, the others are all local Amish. It's fun to learn about how things used to be done.

I had no idea Chuck Norris was a traditional woodworker ;lol
