Dear Community,
I really wanted to thank you for all of your help to this point. I promise this will be my last post on this subject as I am down to two fireplace inserts. I believe both the Osburn and Pacific Energy are good stoves, but I can get the Osburn, including installation, for $1000 less. Is the Pacific Energy a $1000 better over the life of the stove. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Dan

No thoughts on the stove . . . but I certainly hope you don't think we'll restrict you to a certain number of posts. ;) :) Feel free to keep asking questions . . . we like answering them . . . they make us feel smarter. ;)

That sounds like a fantastic deal on the Osburn, usually they are closer priced. Are you comparing like to like? Which model PE and with what accessories? I would expect the Osburn with black door and pedestal to come in around $1870 and an equivalent Summit to come in around $2350 (with blower). Personally I like the PE design, but that doesn't mean that the Osburn is not a perfectly capable heater.

It may come down to the 'look' as well since the Osburn 2200 is a Bay Window providing a larger viewing area.

We make Osburn but you cant go wrong with either brands since they are good quality.

I think it says they make the stove.............................

Xactly... it states we make the stoves thereby implying I work for the company.

You are right... I am paid to be biased. However, if you re-read the comment, I am not sure how anyone could object since I stated a simple fact then followed by a praise for my competitor.

None taken... Wether one 'plugs' products in their signature or simply state the fact there is another unit available is all the same IMHO.

The Pacific Energy model is just called the Super Insert and it is their medium sized stove for about $2600 while the Osburn 2200 is selling for 1695. Installation costs are pretty similar. PE states that their baffle is covered for the life of the stove, which may be their selling point. But to me, I can't imagine I would be changing the baffle on the Osburn at such a frequency that over the lifetime of the stove it would eventually equal itself out.

Ah, got it I was thinking of the Osburn 2300. You are correct, if you are not slamming in the splits and not filling the firebox right up to the tubes, your baffle should last several years.

If you are getting the 2200 for $1,695 you are getting some sweet deal. Retail all kitted black is $2,489.

Osburn baffle is made of ceramic cast material and you would have to try hard to break it. Warranty on glass & tubes is lifetime even if you break the glass by closing the door on a log. Firebox is 2.2 cu. ft.

The suggestion to put "SBI sales employee" in the signature line is a good one. It would help avoid confusion and accidental omissions for adding this caveat to each posting for SBI products.

Just sent a PM...

Hi Stav,

Both units are good heaters and burn very clean offering the same reliable and durable non-catalytic technology. Sure enough, styles are totally different since the Osburn 2200 has a bay window (air wash covers the three sides and door opens completely) offering more fire viewing area with an unique and different look, which obviously will maximize the wood burning experience. Also as previously indicated, you’re getting a very sweet deal at that price since regular retail for that unit is usually significantly higher. Seems like an easy choice! Best of lucks ;-)

Geppetto83 you need to identify your association with SBI in your posts or sig.

Not a problem BrotherBart. Done.
