Feeling the Heat

Well after months of going back and forth between a free stander and a zc insert, my wife and I made a choice. She really wanted a insert but, we had to make a choice because we are about to move into our new house and the only thing left is the fireplace. So, I took her to lehmans in Kidron and looked at their spread of stoves and we settled on the Oslo! I think it may be a little large for our house but I really liked the side loader and the size of the box. Well today I went and bought it and they gave me a $600 in store credit! I guess I can go by some goodies for it and I already ordered the screen for the front. So I guess I better get cracken getting the stone up the wall and the stove pipe hung!

Congrats on the purchase! From everything I read on here you should love that stove! Now don't forget about the wood, It's all about the wood you know...........Green wood to dry and dry wood to burn......Just in case I forgot to mention it make sure you are set on your firewood it is #1......;)

Congrats. Proper fuel and you will love it. Improper fuel... Not so much.
Good luck.

Nice! What finish did you get? The Oslo should give you plenty of headroom...you never know, we could get a couple of cold days down here at some point. ==c
Get busy on that stone and pipe; We wanna see some pics! :)

I have about a cord an a half of dry wood around 16 to 20% and I have a monster maple that has been down 3 years just need to get cutting on it and see where the moister is at on it. I just got the black matte, didn't think I needed to spend the extra coin on a shiny finish. I'm guessing I won't get in a lot of burning this year, but at least I will get to see how I'm saving next year! Can't wait to get a burn in with this, but I'm a few weeks out till I'm ready.

You will love that Oslo. Keep the shorts and t-shirts out this winter.

DRY WOOD :)
Nice Purchase

I should have been more specific......it will be cold outside, but like summer inside with that Oslo fired up!

Maybe I can just open a window!

Nice buy ! Those Jotul black cast stoves look great with a stone hearth. I'll second Woody's request for some pics.

Congrats on the new stove.

Just make sure you burn seasoned wood.

I will take some pictures as I build and post them for you guys.

Grats!! My sister loves hers. Thing rocks. And as others have said, a good instal, and then it's ALL about the wood.

Great stove . . . most folks are very pleased with their Oslos.

Also, most folks that have bought the fireplace screen use them a few times and then realize that they're wasting a lot of heat by turning their stove into a fireplace and the novelty wears off . . . and the screen sits unused in the closet.

Some other purchase ideas that will most likely be more useful: gloves, fireplace shovel/poker/ash rake, thermometers for the stove and stove pipe (and/or IR thermometer), Super Cedars.

Congrats again on the purchase . . . my only regret is not going with the fancier blue-black finish . . . but the matte black looks decent and gets the job done -- the "job" being heating my home efficiently and effectively.

I liked mine so much, I bought a second one. That side door make it easy to stoke the fire. We call it feeding the twins.

Congrats! great choice! I just finished installing mine this summer and have had a handfull of fires in it so far, can already tell this thing is made to produce serious heat.

We are seriously looking at putting a dormer on our house. I thought I would move the Intrepid out of the garage... but an Oslo would be so much nicer and more efficient.

Oh, this is going to be fun. Tearing the roof off our 1928 Arts & Craft to build a loft... keep it looking like it belongs.

Weeeeeeeee! Let the expletives, truck loading and unloading begin. Beer in the afternoon and up before dawn with a mug of coffee. I am doing Cross Fit training now to get ready.

I can't wait to get it in place, but a lot of work between now and then!

Love to go thru Lehmans in Kidron. We try to get there when we go out to see our daughter in Carrollton. Those who are not familiar with the place, google it and check it out. I order the fireview glass cleaner from them.
Good luck with the Oslo.

Tom

Congrats on the stove. The Oslo is a nice piece of furniture and a serious heater.

Congrats on stove. With good wood you cant go wrong with the Oslo. As others mentioned, that screen really aint worth it. It screws with your burn and sucks warm air from your house up the pipe and out. You get all the flames and ambiance you need through the glass. Good choice and enjoy.

Congrats! I rarely hear anyone complain that their stove is too big so sounds like you made the right choice! Put that $600 into wood...kiln dried...or bio bricks...or green wood for next year...now.

Father In law and I got the stove into the house tonight with out incident, except for me getting my thumb caught between the pallet and stove! Luckily he was able to hold the weight while I wiggled it out, and I was fine thanks to him.
