Installed my P-43 last year, replacing a older stove, and loved the Harman ! This year I want to install a oak to increse efficency.

I did a quick search, lots of talk to no actuall kits. ANybody have a good source for a OAK kit to fit my Harman ? I need about 12' of tubing or so to reach the stove.

Thanks

Your local Harman dealer will have the 2-3/8" diameter stainless ducting that Harman recommends, but as I recall, it's pretty costy. If you can get something close to that diameter, you can probably make it work. 12' is a pretty long run, so 3" probably wouldn't hurt you. Many hearthshops that also install gas fireplace inserts will have short lengths of the co-linear aluminum flexible vent laying around. You can fit that to the stove with a hose clamp & maybe adapt a dryer exhaust cap or a bathroom vent cap thru the wall to the outside...Make sure you put some sort of insect/critter screen over the end of it...

X2 I used the 3 inch aluminum flex hose for my enviro bought from home depot for around 5 bucks.

3" alum. water heater vent pipe makes a fine OAK. Put one on my PC45 'bout a month ago. Cut a few slits in the pipe where it connects to the stove and put an auto hose clamp on it. Tape the joints with alum. tape.

Did you guys insulate the aluminum pipe to prevent condensation ??

While checking out the depot, they sell 4" insulated HVAC hose. Does code require all metal pipe ? Ccould i use a 2' piece of aluminum by the stove, then the insualted pipe all the way to the air inlet ?

I did not insulate either of mine.

I did not insulate either of mine.

Ok. Being in PA, you should be as cold as me. Want to avoid any comdensation issues when is -5 out there.

I did not insulate my oak either. It is actually hot to the touch.

Actually, my OAk will be around 12' long, so it will be pretty cold away from stove.

I never really had any issues, it has felt cold and damp, but it never got to the point where it dripped all over. what did you use to insulate it?

I used some piping for an on demand water heater. It is all stainless and has a bird screen built in. I got the termination peice from grainger on closeout for 13 bucks marked down from 68 so i took a chance and it is exactly what i was looking for. For the piping i ran 3 inch galvanized with a silicon 3-2.75 inch reducer to attatch to the stove. It looks and works better than the factory harman kit for my p61a. I think its callled z pipe or something close to that. It seems like nice piping for an oak. Fully welded seams and decent gage metal.

I have the P43 and I bought the wall thimble that has the Oak next to the venting. Its one unit and pretty easy to install. Mine gets cold and a bit damp on cold nights.
