I decided to do a cleaning of the stove today. I opened the bay door and noticed this piece on the thermocouple. It was chared and looked like it would fall of soon and burn away. What is it and do I need it? Maybe the installers forgot to take it off? Just wanted to know before I took it off

It's just high temp silicone, I just took mine off. After getting tired of pushing the thermocouple in every time I cleaned the stove, I wired the the cable housing.

When Quad builds these they put silicon in the thermocouple cover to keep it on the thermocouple. It just squeezes out and leaves a ball. It will harden and fall off if you leave it or you can break off the excess. Nothing to be concerned with.

Just make sure that the end of the thermocouple wire is in contact with the inside end of the ceramic cover and that it sticks out into the pot far enough to be licked by flame.

Judging by the pic, the ceramic is sticking out far enough. Just make sure to slightly bend the T/C so its hitting the inside end.
