Just for the record, I currently have 30 face cords c/s/s. 15 of which are ready for use this coming winter. However as I passed by my favorite tree service dump lot my curiosity got the best of me. Since my last visit a few months ago the owners removed an old beat up dump truck that took up quite a bit of room and oh my....what do we have here? A very nice size pile of ash. 50% of the pile was cut into perfect rounds! 18" long x 12-20" round. WelI, I just couldn't resist. Went this morning and cherry picked the pile. 2 hours and 30 very nice size rounds later and we have another healthy face cord of free wood. Since I don't need it right away, I think I will let it sit for awhile until I get around to splitting it....say until Tuesday or Wednesday...Haha

Wow, must have felt like Christmas!

Dzych2, it is super being spoiled like that. You'll also enjoy splitting that ash; perhaps the easiest splitting wood there is. Of course that also comes with a warning if you cut any trees. Beware lest those things barber chair on you because they do split so easy.

The truth to the matter Backwoods is there is probably at least 4-5 more loads of just that pile of Ash. My minivan without the seats can take 1 face cord at a time. Don't want to blow out the springs...Haha

Well, you make do with what you have. Do you have a trailer hitch on the van? And sometimes if you find a large enough haul, it might pay to rent a small truck for a day. Home Cheapo has one they rent but it is a bit stiff price. If a quick haul then not too bad but for a day it is high. Probably U-Haul would be cheaper.

What, they don't split it before they dump it for you to haul away? Geeze, someone ought to file a complaint. Really though- what a sweet deal that is, I'd be like a kid with a pocketful of dollars in a candy store.

All of my wood is from that Tree Service dump site. Thinking of leaving a Tim Horton's gift card on the dispatchers door as a small way to say thanks. :)

Great score and never let up. Never know when a great source evaporates. It reminds me to go check on the dump site where a local tree service drops off rounds.

Gotta love that! Kinda like the butcher shop dropping off a bunch of filet mignon right in your lap IMO.

Can't beat that!

Nice score
Never have to much wood ;)

Wow, they just let you take wood any time you want it? That's great, I need to find a score like that.
Call your local tree service company. Be humble and honest...and see what happens. Also try your local Highway Dept Supervisor. They are the ones in charge of tree removal for your town.....They will drop a load of wood off for you on your front lawn.....I have that hook-up as well...

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to check out the township to see what they say & give some tree companies a ring.

I'm kinda getting spoiled with that tree service dump at my disposal anytime I want. Might go back after work tomorrow for another load.

Spoiled? Hmmm.....YA THINK?
hahaha...congrats on the great hookup!
