This one looks like maple to me. It is milky white on the inside. Not sure what type of maple though.

Thanks,
Bruce

Been awhile since I cut one but looks to be Ash......

Norway maple, take a wiff of a fresh split should smell a little sweet.

Hardly any aroma. It doesn't smell sweet at all.

I think that is Ash. Norway Maple is pretty similar, but Norway Maple is usually only found along woodland edges, parks, forests near town, etc. and so I wouldn't expect it in a load of logs from a logger. I am not sure how to tell from these pictures whether it is Norway Maple or Ash, but I'll bet Ash.

One can easily mistake that for ash but it is not.

Cool, I thought it was maple based on the rounds I split last year around this time but had no idea what type. Will this season in a year?

yes it should, heres some of mine at 18 months. I bent the tip of one of the pins, Norway is definitely hard maple.

I think I need to change this one from hard maple to soft.
After getting some experience seeing the difference from hard maple and soft while splitting, this log opens up like butter, like the softer maples you folks identified. I do not see any of the characterisitcs in the bark of soft maple though. What do you think? Is Norway a hard or soft maple?

Thanks,
Bruce

Norway is Norway. All 3 Maples are hardwoods, Hard Maple(AKA Sugar or Rock Maple) is the densest of the three. Norway would fall somewhere in between Hard and Soft(AKA Red, Silver, etc...) would be the least dense of the three. If it where me I would consider it a "Soft" Maple.
