anybody listen to music thru headphones while cutting?

It's a must...

I put my headphones in, and then some big muffs on top of that.

It's a mix of Metallica, all that remains, some other metal, some symphony and.. Yes, some phantom of the opera.

Heavy metal, county and musicals, but no rap. No no rap.

As much as I love music, I really need to pay attention while I am cutting wood. I also like to hear what is going on around me, ie. the saw.

Never.I need to concentrate when operating the saw or other equipment.

Right! No Rap!!

yeah I just leave my truck door open while splitting wood and stacking all by hand mind you. Mainly its metal, hard rock, alternative and definitely no rap.

I prefer not to have music and just listen to natural sounds... On occasion thou, I have played music while splitting wood if there is a noise bothering me in the background.(neighbors...<>)

I don't mind some tunes while splitting or stacking. Blues influenced Classic Rock (AC/DC, Aerosmith, Great White, etc) and 80's Hair Metal :)cool: ) is 90% of my playlist.

But for cutting, I really want to hear the saw. I run mostly older saws and I want to hear what's going on and be able to shut down at the first hint of trouble.

I listen to Pandora while stacking and never while using the saw.

Wow I wouldnt have guessed there were a few metal heads here at hearth lol! I am a newbie with the saw so there will be no music while cutting but S/S its a must. My preference would be metal/rock and followed closely by country.

Nothing while cutting/splitting, I'd rather be aware of my surroundings, and the whine of the Husky speaks volumes....
I do blast BB, Mayall, collins, Cray, some Coltrane, etc... while stacking!

No music here . . . just the sound of the saw when it's running . . . and nature when it isn't.

i have ear muffs with built in radio....they have a noise filter that allows me to hear whats going on around me also, saw etc

How in the heck do you hear music when the saw is running? Better ears than mine, I guess. I need to hear the saw.
I have a pretty decent setup in the shop, but don't bother with it while running the machinery........there's no point.
No need for background noise in the woods. The birds provide the music.

Tried it a few times splitting, but prefer the birds, wind, and a squirrel that always reads me the riot act in my splitting area. He needs to get a little bolder for tomahawk range, (about 12 feet.) ::-)

I do and have a pair of the stihl head phones and use them for everything from shooting lawn tractor power washing to cutting and splitting! Awesome piece of equipment and only issue is you set them down and someone will be wearing them..........;)

i dont listen to music with that stuff. ear plugs when running saw and splitter. just enjoying being outside when stacking.

I also tried listening to music while stacking wood but then I realized I was really hungry when I looked to see what time it was I found out I missed lunch and my wife said she yelled for me to come in to eat but I never heard her with the music playing, that is the last time I listened to music while splitting, because missing out on food is not something I plan on ever doing again

Gotta agree with the "pay attention " crowd.
+ I like to take the muffs off when the saw isnt' running to hear
(well as much as I can hear) the noise of the woods.
Sometimes the silence, is beautiful :)

Usually I saw or split with my right hand, and text with my left.

Only when I'm stacking.....never when running saws or handheld equipment. That's when bad things happen.

Wear ear muffs while cutting and splitting but can still hear the motors of the saw or splitter. When stacking, music is the last thing I want to hear. I love the quiet! I love to hear a few birds. I usually stack wood in the spring and many times will hear geese or other migrating birds. It probably helps that most of the time I am not near the house and am just back in the woods. But even if I stack near the house, we live in the woods! I still hear only the woods sounds mostly. We do have one bad thing and that is at certain times of the year we do hear traffic on the state highway that is about 3/4 mile from us. Not bad, but still hear it. I prefer the sounds of nature.

I'll never forget a city boy who came one evening. It was late evening and suddenly he got stiff and said, "Listen!" I listened and could not hear anything. Then he said, "That's what I mean! The quiet!" I'm so happy to live in the country.

This was the first thing I thought of.............

Sooooo it's NOT cool to wear a bra while cutting???

The odd time I put tunes on while splitting or stacking but usually don't end up paying much attention to it.
Never with the saw, I have enough hearing damage, music would have to be cranked to over power the Jonsered.
