except I'm not Irish! I sign up for the Hearth forum and BAM!!!! Lady knocks on the door stating she is with a tree service doing work down the street and I get the hook up on 6 truck loads of what I believe to be white oak.......FREE. They have at least this much still to drop off.

Great score! I love the smell of white oak, both when cutting and splitting, and when it burns. One of my faves.

Get that stuff split up and stacked, one downfall of oak is that it takes 2 to 3 years to season for optimum BTU harvesting!

By the way, welcome to Hearth.com!!

Welcome to the forum VaWoodsman.

That is a great first post. Leaf is definitely white oak. Like Jay stated, it does look really white but pictures can really be deceiving.

You posted as I was typing. Nice looking white oak. Wish I had some of that here.

Are you trying to tell us that someone knocked on your door offering firewood? I have never heard of that type of luck whether or not you're irish. How did she pick your door to knock on?

You should quit collecting wood immediately. It will never get better than free oak knocking on the door. You only have downhill to go from here.

Wow ! good ffor you VA WOODSMAN. Thats definatly white oak . Primo stuff.

Now you know one of the reasons that oak is one of the best. Just wish it would not take so long to dry.

perfect... Please say you helped someone in need, with luck like that.

Great score and welcome to the forum. Good to see you are ahead of the game and can let the oak season properly. That is the best firewood score I have ever heard.
