I am very relieved that hearth n home is getting involved too. It gives me a lot more confidance in this company. The district manager was here today and he found a few things that were wrong. Nothing that affects safe operation, but things that do need to be fixed (missing caulk in several places, chase pan and the screen on top of the chimney is bent up). He is having a different factory installer contact me to set up a time to come over. Electrician, drywall guy and stone guy are lined up too. So things are moving along and it looks like I'll have a fireplace before long.

If the screws are not long enough get longer screws. As for the electrical work, ugh. That's all I have to say about that. Foam for a fire stop?, I have used a fire rated foam to seal holes through framing that had wires running through them. Not sure what size gap it is it's limit. Can't remember the name, but got it at the local building store. Orange can, orange foam. I believe most fire stops in homes only delay the spread of flames and not stop them all together seeing that most are surrounded by wood.

Longer screws won't fix the problem. That was the first idea I had. Longer screws makes the fascia go on, but there is a gap between the fascia and the woodstove that isn't supposed to be there. And also you can't get the pins in the doors. So longer screws is not an option. The gaps in the fire stop have been foamed with orange foam. It's nasty looking, but it works. And the sharp edge on that flashing has been folded down about an inch so now the sharp edge isn't cutting into the ppe. Ugly, yes. But it will pass code like it is now.

Glad to hear that H&H is stepping up to make things right. Good luck w/the rest of the install and please post pics of the final product! BTW, have you started getting wood or are you set for this winter?

I now understand the fascia problem. And I assume the stove cant be slid out to meet the fascia. I hope you find a solution!

I have been splitting wood like crazy. We had 5 large dead oak trees (died maybe a year or two ago due to root damage) on the property that needed to come down anyway. I had a small amount of seasoned wood too, from a few years ago. So no....I probably am short on good seasoned wood but I'll make do. I will post pics of my Quad once I get it all done. I am taking this ledgestone tile to the ceiling and also building a black walnut surround and mantel from wood that my dad has been keeping for around 60 years, just waiting on a project. This seemed like a good use of that walnut to him so I am working on planing it down and making it usable. This is a jpg I took from the drawing I design everything with so you can get a rough idea of my final product.

That should look fantastic!

The electrician was here Monday. I can't believe what that installer did! First, he apparently had trouble running the wire so he busted the back out the electrical box. So this means my wires were right up against the insulation's paper. BIG fire hazard if anything in that box sparked. Also, I had a 14/2 wire in the chase pulled so that I could have an electrical outlet above my mantel. So instead of pulling a new wire for the switch, he took MY wire and used it instead. There are two problems with this. First, that was MY wire, for my outlet. But the biggest problem is that a 14/2 wire was not appropriate. This install called for a 14/3 wire! He somehow jury-rigged it to work but it would never pass a code inspection. Electrical is now fixed and the new installer is coming on Tuesday to take care of the cap, the rain guard and the chase pan. I am going to tackle the rock myself this weekend.

So basically every shortcut possible to get it done and get out, and the sad part is they get away with it with a lot of customers.

Yes, that is it in a nutshell. Whatever shortcut he could take, he took. I am just really thankful that the quadrafire is shipped as a completed unit with nothing that the installer can screw up, other than the installation itself which can be fixed. I feel really sorry for anyone who hires this bozo to do their install! I am going to tackle the stone repair this weekend. I have come to the conclusion that if you want something done right, do it yourself.
