Well it was nice and warm here today with no rain finally so I decided to go get a load of wood from crown land. Found a couple nice birch trees so in the truck they went. Think Im just gonna keep gathering and split it all in spring. phpgSRs7UPM(1).jpg

Very nice, I've never cut birch before but love the look.

I always love seeing birch next to a fireplace, even if it isn't getting burnt. Such pretty bark.

Nice load of birch. Bet you knew you had a load ;)

I split everything 3" & up & crack the smaller stuff.
Had some 1" stuff go punky in the fire pit wood pile. The water tight bark holds in the moisture.

Love my birch :)
Not much need for fire starters with some dry birch bark.
I'm almost 100% birch now.

Some folks downplay it as the BTU doesn't compare to wood like oak, sugar maple, beech, etc. . . . but honestly it works well enough for me if I'm home . . . I mean to say it isn't going to burn up in a matter of seconds, but I don't use it on any overnight fires. It works fair enough for me so that I will cut birch with no hesitation, but it isn't my favorite "go to" wood when I'm looking for a fire with a little more in the way of burn time.

White birch is particularly nice for getting a fire going from a cold start or even after a long night as the birch provides its own "tinder" in the form of the paper-like bark . . . my wife especially likes piling some on to the stove on a reload.

thats a nice looking load, I think my favorite thing about burning birch is the bark makes great fire starter

Il have to remember to split or atleast crack all the pieces. Its my first year burning and this stuff wont get burnt till next year, would hate to have a bunch of it go punky.

Stacking the wood up and doing all the splitting in the spring is also how we do it and since we started doing it this way we really like it.
