Southern Maine
After being recommended by another forum member I signed up. I'm living in Southern Maine and I'm in the process of researching for my first pellet stove as a supplement to the high cost of oil.

Our home is an early 1946 cape style with open floor plan (1 bedroom, living, dinning, kitchen and bath) on the main level, 2 bedrooms on the second level and a full basement. Total living space is 1300 sq ft. Current heating/hot water source is a Biasa B10 Boiler (3 yrs old) with a 50 gal hot water tank and recirculating system.

The general plan was to add a pellet stove to the main floor to compensate the cost of oil and add additional warmth. My wife is always cold and we try to maintain a temperature around 68-70 d while we are home and awake. The forced hot water boiler does a good job but doesn't seem to give a true warm feel. Over the past 2 years we striped and insulated the 2nd level as well as blown insulation into the eves and attic space.

After some review we are thinking about purchasing a Timber Ridge 55-TRP22 pellet stove. I have come across a refurbished model from Timber Ridge and need some input as to what the general thought is about this model and it being refurbished. http://www.amfmenergy.com/55trp22--epa-certified-pellet-stove--2255222200.html

I understand that I will need a 3" through wall installation kit to complete the install. http://www.amfmenergy.com/ac3000--3quot-throughthewall-pellet-installatio30003.html

I would prefer to build a stove platform rather than spend the money to purchase new. Any tips on the process or preference?

There are plenty of questions to come.

Thank you,
Dana

Maybe you've already done this but one thing I would highly recommend before you purchase any stove it to visit some dealers near you no matter what brand you're looking for. Just to see and hear what a stove looks and sounds like in person. That said, I'm not familiar with that brand but I'll bet there's a few members of this site that may be able to reply with specific info. about it. If you can afford it, I'd also look at brands such as Harman, Quadrafire, Englander, Lopi, etc...For the space you need to heat, you might be able to find a higher quality stove for not that much more money. Also, unless you're very handy, and if you buy from a dealer, have them install the stove. You might jeopardize the warranty otherwise. Good luck and let us know what you decide on....

Thanks for the welcome!

The Timber Ridge 55 - TRP22 is the same as the Englander 25-PVD which if I understand correct is a well known and trusted pellet stove.

I bought a refurb 55-TRPAH so I can't tell you anything about the 55-TRP22 that you don't already know but I can tell you that Andy at AmFm is great to work with. Shoot Andy an e-mail, he can most likely tell you if the units he has on hand are new factory seconds with a cosmetic problem or if they are used stoves that Mike and his crew at ESW have gone through and restored to like new condition. The stove I got is a factory second and the only thing that I could find wrong with it is one screw missing from the back panel, big deal, it runs great and keeps my toasty warm.

Thank you for the suggestion. I emailed Andy this afternoon just waiting to see what he has to say.

Agree 100% with this. I bought my 10-cpm from Andy at AMFM and couldn't have been happier.

When you do get the stove installed and running, and the house is a nice cozy 72 or above and the wife is happy, you'll wonder why it took this long to do it.

Oh, and don't forget....we love pics of new installs. ;)

Based on the recommendations of people on this site, I just bought one of these from Andy. Hopefully, I'll finish the install tomorrow. Another FYI, Englander's lead service technician, MIke, is a member of this forum. He was very helpful. Answered a lot of my questions and helped me get things situated. If you're doing a corner install and you're interested, PM me your email address and I'll forward you the specs that Mike sent me to build a hearth to the correct dimensions.
