Way to much firewood around here to be processed... folks at the farm where Dix & Matisse live loaned me their splitter to git 'er dun

Broke my milk crate (sorry Dennis ;)) so I improvised

This is a "work horse" for sure !! Knocked this out today, will stack during the week. This is 1 year old "splits to big to fit in either stove". I think they will fit now !

102112 004.JPG

Dont laugh, it worked, and it wasn't as hard on the knees as the milk crate !!

My free cherry score, needs to be processed
102112 007.JPG

More "to big for either stove" needs to be processed. This will become the "incoming wood/logs area"

2 humungous oaks that need to be processed

More that needs attention

It's going to take some time, but I'll be golden when it's over.

View from the back door, at the moment

I've got 6 pallets ready to stack this stuff on, hope they are enough :p

A woman's work is never done !!!;lol

Your splits make me feel better about my splits (I also have the Englander 13). But exactly what I did this morning. Made some of my splits smaller for my stove, but I did it the old fashion way. Enjoy...

Wow, I thought for sure your friends loaned MY splitter to you,....but mine is all black and the fenders are plastic. Otherwise, the same.;)
You'll be set once all that's done, eh? Will you be bucking up the trunks and branches?

Alot of the "too big for either stove" stuff is going to burn awesome in the 13. As I was splitting them, I said to myself " these are perfect for the 13". And as they are already split, and one year seasoned, they are going to season quick :)

The bigger stuff will feed the PE.

That's the Dixette's job, Dave. Carpal doesn't make you want to hold and work a chain saw ( gonna work on that, loved working the saw !!)

Yep, I know about Carpal. My hands fall asleep when I do.!!!
I've hand coffee cups fall out of my hand...full. Didn't realize the cup was missing until it hit the floor.

That's why I don't work the saw any more.

It also sucks when it's hard to turn the key in the ignition. Gonna fix that after the benefits kick in on the new job ;)

Oh no Dix! You borrowed a splitter but obviously forgot to read the instruction manual? Never, never, ever point it towards the sky! Its a well known fact that wood seasons better if split horizontal, the humidity is lower higher, your would absorbs moisture on the ground, and milk crates are known to cause sore butts!!!! Lol..... looked like lots of fun to me. :)

My craftsman is the same, does mtd mfg all 3? I often wondered if the return line would not be streched so tight if it was on the other side of beam.

You'll want the milk crate back, I tried one of them over sized tubs and the ring on the bottom dug into my butt after a couple days, plus the crate is vented, lol, nice stash and farm friends to loan you the splitter.

No, I won't. The bottom is cracked in numerous places, and it made sitting exceptionally painful

Plus the milk crate is to low. Long legs, bent in akward position makes for standing & reaching harder. Was much easier on a "higher level" :p

Good work Dix. Thanks for the pics. Looks like you have your work cut out for you. I have a couple extra crates kickin around if you need one. Sounds like you just need a newer one and a cushion to get you to the right height. Dennis will let you know. Nice work splitting vertically for that. Now we won't have to revisit ........

;lol

Looking good
May be needing a fire this year,
Glad you have the wood ready to go early ;)

I have the exact same splitter, except mine is red and says Troybilt on it. They had to have been made by the same manufacture. I thought the front stilt was a finger chopper so I changed it to a crank jack exactly as you have done. I split some really big white and red oak and find that it well split everything you can feed it. It's a good outfit and I'm sure you well enjoy your time with it. David

Good friends, great piles. Whatever works for the bum to make splitting easier. Be well

Wish i had a friend like that...... one day i might treat myself.

Now that was a ton of work. Not sure why the crate did not work for you. Most do say it is too low but perhaps I need it lower because of the back. Besides, having it low I can lift a lot more using leverage rather than brute strength. I also put a cushion on the crate so no sore butt.

congrats on the work done, good luck getting the rest of your dance card knocked out.

also - Beautiful horse, shh....;)

Nice work there. Nice that you could borrow the machine.

Thanks, Steve.

I borrowed this 2 years ago, before the winter from hell". Thankfully I had it to get alot done (and we still were scrambling come February).

NOT going to happen again, I promise !
