Just be certain your stove is in the same state for both measurements, for giggles take the temperature out of the same tube with the stove at the same firing rate using the same pellet everyday from the day you do deep clean to the day you do the next deep clean.
Call it a quest! The needle in the haystack per say! Keep an eye on new to market goods that haven't gained a following. They can't get top dollar even if the product is extreme. This is sometimes the sleeper pellet of the season. Next is some of the boxstore brands. I'll just say Somerset and that should explain it. They are out there if you spend some time routing for them.
I'm rather cheap and I like good(quality). So I'll take a good cheap one. Course I don't mind a good quicky either!
jtakeman, thanks for explaining your method. I think it bears repeating but I don't know how the quote functionality works on this forum.
I understand the attraction we all have to basing decisions on data but my gut tells me it may be very easy to misinterpret results in this particular area. If you burn two different brands of pellets (at the same settings, etc.) and one gives a higher temperature than the other, the kneejerk reaction might be to consider the pellet with the hotter temp to be the "better" pellet when it might just be faster burning because it's denser!
I have seen your website, but I am curious - do you ever publish any of the raw data you gather?
It's not my site. That site actually belongs to Rob Anderson(member quazi95 here). Which reviews are you looking at? Mine are only in takeman's take on the right. Rob does all the other reviews and has way more energy than me!
I keep tabs on the burn length, along with heat and post them with all the other data I collect. I also post a PDF you can down load. If I measure it? Its posted with the review. Do you feel I'm missing something?
The only other raw data is the temps that I use to average the heat numbers from the stove. I take 5 different measurements and toss out the high and low. The number you see is an average of the 3. Sorry I just jot them down and toss them once I have the average.
