Hi folks. I am looking for some advice here. I placed an order with CJ Pellet about a month ago for some Turmans. They don't answer any message through their web site or email and the voice mailbox is always full so you can't speak to anyone to get an update on my delivery.

I guess I need to move on to plan B. Tractor Supply has GS and Home Depot has Presto. Given those two choices, what would be the preferred way to go?

I usually burn 4 tons through my Harmon XXV. Thanks all!

Presto Logs I got 2-3 yrs ago (still have some) are a Good pellet.

May have been a Super Good batch, but they throw tons of heat. (They do have some ash though). They are a larger diameter pellet, that are very dark in appearance (Hardwood and Conifer blend).

I like them a lot more than the Green Supreme's I tried last year.

I would get the Presto. I wish my local HD was carrying them this year. I would grabs some in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the feedback guys. The local price here in northwest CT is 209 for both of them. Presto it is! I will pick up a ton and report back about this year's batch. I have always had good luck with Lignetics but they are hard to find around here now.

Tractoman did you see this on the CJ Pellet Website?: "Due to a recent fire at the plant Turman has stopped all in bound trucks for picking up pellets. CJ's has stopped taken new orders until November"
By the way...is the TSC you speak of in Barkhamsted? I know they got a new shipment of pellets....will be disappointed if they are GS's. I would go with the presto's too...burned a bunch last year and liked them.

Another vote for the presto's. Save some for me, Looks like I'll have to go the presto route too!

I tried to get some MWP from TSC and all they had was the GS's left. So I only picked up a few bags for now. Lowes has Timber Heat and Inferno's. last time I checked. I was going to get some Timber Heats to try. But they only had Inferno's by the bag. Was hoping for Somersets or Greene Teams, But we can't be that lucky over here!

I did get all fuzzy when I saw that CJ's has Orford. They are a Doug Fir pellet and might be something to look into. FYI

How close are you to BT or CTpellet?

Thanks for that info - no, I didn't see that on the website. I am, however, disappointed in the lack of any type of customer service from CJ's. I will not be ordering anything from them in the future.
Yea, the TSC in Barkhamsted said when I called that they had the GS in stock.

I'm not that close to either of them. I called BT and they are looking at a 3 week delivery time. I don't mind paying the $100 in delivery for 4 tons as it would probably cost me that in gas to go pick up a 1/2 ton at a time.

Thanks again to everyone who has responded so far.

iam in east windsor ct and also ordered from cjs pellets ,a month ago, a ton of hammers and a ton of ambiance ,no e-mails from them and cant call ,voice mail is full, still working on my last 11/2 tons of okes, have got to find somemore pellets

Green Supreme would have had my vote last season, but this year's batch here in northeast PA (mostly found at Lowe's & Home Depot) is garbage.

Whew! I though it was just me!

OMG, I couldn't get my stove to stay lit on any setting other than high! I just threw a bag of Barefoots in about 2 hours ago and I now know that I'm not going crazy. I was able to put the trim levels back to zero, pull the damper slightly out and get a decent flame at 2 (out of 5). With these GS garbage pellets, I had the trim for feed all-up,trim for air all-down, and my damper almost closed just to keep a flame. They must be using HAY for filler at Green Supreme/NEWP.

hmmm interesting that this is coming up, I am not liking how the GS's are burning either. Even after sifting them there seems to be a lot of fines coming down the chute into the stove. I am thinking that this batch has a higher than normal moisture content? Less dense? . I have a ton to go through so i guess i will vacuum the hopper after each load.

Ahh the trials and tribulations of the frugile :)

I had a bad feeling when I began stacking the bags...very full/puffed out. Yeah, maybe a moisture problem, but I'm thinking its just a much less dense, more impure batch from last years blend. Never again for me. I vac-sifted also, and found a lot of sawdust down in the auger. I think they were just crumbling.

Mine seem normal in size and moisture is right around 5%, Fines aren't bad, ash seems low. They just don't seem to have much heat. Eeh, no biggie I only bought 10 bags.

Interesting. I tried the GS last year and had no success, little heat, lots of ash and dusty. Decided to try again this year as that is what HD had. Bought three bags a few weeks ago. Burned well, little ash and minimal fines so I bought 4 tons. Have burned only 9 bags thus far but with a setting of 2 they burned well with minimal ash and no clinkers. At setting 7 they were Hot, clean and with minimum ash. I like them. I have a couple tons of Turmans for the cold days and believe we're all set for the season. Maybe its my stove, it seems to burn everything - some better than others. Last year, my first, I used Fireside Ultras for the shoulder and I like there GS better. I'll probably need to empty the ash bin after the first ton.

I finished last season with GS's and had good results. Similar to yours, So I got some more to start this season. This batch left me puzzled. They should be OK for the warmer weather. I need a few more to get me to the colder season, But I'll just have to pass on the GS's for now.

Maybe this was a strictly regional thing. I would have sang praises for GS last season, especially for the price/per/ton. But what I bought this season is a different product altogether. I anticipate that we will be getting more negative feedback as this season kicks in.

My GS's last year burned pretty clean. But they had zero heat output.

Also had lots of black pellets (exterior). Looks as if the dies were very hot during the extrusion.

Could it be the G/S's are coming from different plants ? Have only used a couple bags of this years (just delivered last week) and they seem to be fine-not unusually black pellets putting out good heat ,pretty sure they are from the NH plant.
