Could it be the G/S's are coming from different plants ? Have only used a couple bags of this years (just delivered last week) and they seem to be fine-not unusually black pellets putting out good heat ,pretty sure they are from the NH plant.

NEWP owns 3 plants(mills). Jaffrey, NH, Schuyler, NY and the newest being Deposit, NY.

Is there a marking/code or difference in the wrap from the two plants?

Green Supreme would have had my vote last season, but this year's batch here in northeast PA (mostly found at Lowe's & Home Depot) is garbage.

did you buy all of them at Lowes on Macarther rd? I went back a week later to buy them and all they had left was cheat river and Timber Heats...

FYI, in case you were interested, they will be getting Greene Teams:

Store City, State Phone # Projected Ship Date Ship Code
1 LOWE'S 2763 WHITEHALL TOWNSHIP, (610) 686-5231 26-Oct-12 PA113983

Is Lowes charging more for the GT's in your area?

Not at the Bethlehem store ($209 ton)....I'm curious to see what they will charge at the Whitehall store. At the Bethlehem store they have since gotten in Presto's and Cheats (they do have two pallets of GT's but look completely wet on the inside).....when I went to get a few bags of Presto's they were out of them...you snooze you loose!

No, I bought them at the Dickson City (Scranton) store, 901 Viewmont Drive.

The GS's I have say they were produced on 2/18/12, tag on the pallet says NY but not which location. Last years batch I had was produced in July and also from NY, and so far they seem to burning the same to me. But then again I use a torch to start my stove so I never have problems getting anything to burn in there really.

Mine where from Jaffery Plant( "New England Wood Pellet 141 Old Sharon Rd Jaffery NH"), bar code starts with 1 0851444 ( same as last seasons),can't tell when they where made but Lowes got them in last Thursday and has been selling them out in a day or less so I suspect last week or the week before.Again, nothing different about these then the ones from last year that I can tell by look or heat output.

Yeah, that's the thing. You might get a brand that's really good one year and not so good another year. The last time I had Presto's (probably 3-4 years ago) they put out a lot of ash and clinkers, I didn't like them at all. Clearly that's not the case recently judging from the comments on this thread.

I've been burning pellets since Jan 2005 and the best advice I can give is buy a few bags of each brand and see what you like. Where I live (mid-Atlantic) we don't have a heck of a lot of choices so I burn either Greene Team or Hamers Hot Ones. The place that sells Hamers is the cheapest on delivery so that's who I went with this season.

Thats what happen with ,e and 3 neighbors,we split up 10 tons of Maines Choice 3 years ago and none of us will buy one bag form them ever again, they made a good pellet a while back, then had issues when we bought them and might well have solved them but once burned never again.

The GS I purchased from HD are dated 08/02/2012 with bar code starting with 501444. Only my second year but low ash, no clinkers and great heat - close to my Turmans. Didn't like them last year. Maybe just luck. Now burning the balance of my FS Ultras for the shoulder and trying to save the GS and Turmans for the colder weather. My $.02
