Well, the time has come to start thinking of starting up the stove and I found myself outside staring at the top of the chimney cap on a nice 60 degree wind free sunny day.... I went and grabbed a brush and a friend and we decided to clean the chimney liner ourselves and save $150. It went very well.. The only thing I found was that a 6" poly chimney brush does not like to fit inside a 6" stainless flexible liner... So I found a 5" one that worked great. Got a ton of debris down in the stove... Last year was the first year I started burning and I started after Christmas time. I know now that I was using very unseasoned wood and had a ton of cold starts. The chimney is now clean and I'm sitting in front of a nice warm fire right now keeping the chill out of the air.

Good job. Use some of the savings to splurge on an outrageously over priced beverage to sip while watching the fire.

I'm sipping on an ice cold diet coke right now.... Just got back from the honeymoon 3 days ago and I'm still trying to balance my BAC out...lol

Hey, $150 is good for a whole bunch of beverages around here. Good job on cleaning your own. I always wondered what kind of brush would clean out those corregated liners.

Ah. You already splurged.

Peace of mind comes with a clean chimney ;)
Good job!

exactly, peace of mind comes with a chimney brush and knowing what came out of it. :)
