I understand it was closed, but I just had another dealer call me back after they heard back from PE's tech support.

This dealer said tech support told them not to exceed 475. Meanwhile the other two dealers that already provided their top temp recommendations were 700 and 800.

Kind of a massive swing in stove operating recommendations.

Question I've got - have you pegged the stove top thermometer on you 30NCH / Heat Bomb yet????

;lol

Sorry - BACK TO LURKING!!

Not yet. The stove hasn't even had a full load yet. I think 50% full has been the max load so far. Also, the Defiant is working like a champ with a taller chimney.

Both stoves have been providing 6-7 hour burns with about a 30-40% load. I'm really happy with this setup so far. But, January/February are the results I am interested in.

475?
That's just starting to get warm.

If that temp came from tech support in Canada I wonder if they meant Celsius? I would have to burn kindling only to maintain a 475F stovetop.

I don't know. The dealer did say fahrenheit when she spoke with me, and if it was Celsius, that would convert to nearly 900F . All I know is that I called six dealers, attempted to call PE's tech support, read the manual, and I still do not have a definitive answer.

In no way is this a dig against PE. I am only highlighting that there are no clear answers on operating the stove and defining what "overfired" is on this stove is not obvious from an owner's standpoint.

I've read a few posts on here from those who should know (with graphs and links and stuff), that say an OF would begin at about 900 (or sooner). That happens to be where steel begins to glow a dull red.
If that's true, then my stove is either made of alien steel, or my thermo is off by a bit (most likely).
Thermo has been pegged at 850-900 quite a few times in the past (pre-stove repair) and I never saw any glowing.
If I ran my stove (almost impossible) at 475, we'd be chilly in the dead of winter.

And dont give me anymore crap about my Vogelzang;lol
