Going to stop using the 30 for the rest of this storm. Getting a lot of blow back. That area of the house has a heavy wood burning smell since the heavier winds have kicked in.

Been doing small load as a full load is not needed for many reasons. This is the shortest of the three chimneys with it being about 18'.

The Defiant is faring much better. But, that chimney is 25' high, which might have something to do with it.

Both are working on 6" liners.

No CO detectors have gone off.

The storm is not doing much here but stripping leaves as far as I can tell. I hope your area comes out as well.

Matt

My specific area should be okay. The Philly area is already getting hit with a lot of flooding and downed trees..

IM getting puffbacks too.. never had them before in 10 years of burning..

This is one specific area where Pellet stoves reign supreme.

Power outage is a drawback. Unless you have a small inverter style generator.

Then its business as usual. Its 72.9° in the Living room (West end) and 75° in the Dining room (Mid house/Quad running strong).

My outside porch has taken a Beating. Trampoline earlier and the West wall almost blew down. Needed extra bracing (5 min ago). Temporary winter protection

The wood stove went cold last night. I had a bad experience with Draft last yr with high winds. I have since added the damper. But no chances.

Hope everyone in the path is doing well... Winds are blowing like Mad here.

Or, in my case, owning three stoves. The 30 is out, but I still have 5.5 cu ft of fireboxes available! :)

Oddly enough, the VC is handling the wind without any problems. But, those chimneys are a lot taller.

Thanks. You too.

The pressure is so low with this storm and the wind is so strong that I decided not to take off the chill. I have plenty of sweatshirts! I also think my pipes have a lot to do with it. My 30 takes the six inch outlet and goes into an eight inch stainless chimney. Awful lot of air to push outa there.

The 30 is back up and running. Working fine.

We are getting pretty good winds in Indiana from that storm. I closed the manual damper a little bit to try and isolate the effects of the wind. Seemed to help a little.

I was getting some decent gusts here last night 40+ in Buffalo, however I added 5 more feet to my stack in the summer of 2011, and that has pretty much eliminated all blow backs =)

Yeah, the taller chimney operated a lot better with the strong wind.

I've got a shorter chimney than you on my running Jotul 12, and it did fine.

Surprised you guys had it so light, just 20 - 30 minutes from me. I had about a half dozen trees up-rooted, one being a real monster at more than 24" DBH and about 150 feet tall. The rest were more typical 12" - 18" diameter. No major damage to the house, although we did have some water pushed in around these old windows.

A guy a few doors up from me lost one tree the size of a football field. Again, uprooted. I haven't seen as many broken trees as uprooted.

I will burn tonight, waited out the storm and let the heat pump run. Still getting 30-40 mph gusts from time to time so we will see.

Last night my cat probe that is in my stove was spinning from all the draft the wind was causing, sucking up alot of my heat out of the house with a cold stove.

Might look into a different style cap on the flue. Mine is shielded on the sides so the wind can not blow right over the top of flue. 15' long apx. On the other hand the unit in the basement just has the 4 sided wire mesh and a top plate, that one is always a problem with down drafts when its cold or windy, that one is around 25' apx
