Feeling the Heat

So in anticipation of my stove install, I am gathering all of the items needed to safely operate my stove. I am waiting on the stove, have 2 tons of pellets, backup generator power, ash vac, tripplite ultrablok, pail, scoops etc. the one thing that I do not have is a good fire extinguisher. Are there any recommendations for a good all around extinguisher?

A working one????

ABC is a good all around choice

Do you have any extiguisher anywhere in your home? NFPA recommends 2A10BC for primary general purpose extinguishers in homes, 1A10BC for secondary (i.e. if you already have something bigger on that level of the home). This is a good primary extinguisher:

Of course the BEST way to fight fires is to not have them happen at all!

Or jump out the bedroom window. A stove goes up there's no putting that out.

I like a larger water type in the room with a solid fuel heat source. Heat is going to be the main enemy with a wood fired device. 25 foot plus range. ABC good for electrical etc. I have at least one in every room. Some of the smaller ones well under $20. My refillable water type I got were less than $40. Saved my 30x50 shed when mower caught fire by keeping the wood from catching fire long enough to drag out the mower when battery that was mounted under plastic gas tank blew while trickle charging.

Wouldn't you destroy the stove with a water type?

The viewing window about guarantee it. Some of the electronics maybe. I would bet the pipe or nearby sufaces to be the culprit on fire. Use a dry type and the ammonium phosphate and the soda will have their way with almost everything metal.
Used to respond to small dryer fires with a couple of water type extinguishers and a couple buckets to remove clothes etc.

If I have a choice between a house or a stove, it looks like I'll be turning in some scrap steel;ex

Bingo, time is critical on fires. Get a smoke detector and Co detector. Escape plan and plan of action

And do NOT put the extinguisher near the stove, by the doorway into the room is a better choice.

One of my three extinguishers is hanging on the side of my headboard on my bed. That is where I will be if the unthinkable happens no doubt. I also suggest you quiz family members as to where and how to use them if a proper situation should present itself. Common sense must prevail here in that a small fire is doable with a fire extinguisher. Anything other than that means, GET OUT OF THE HOUSE and call the professionals. IMO.
