What are you guys using for kettles on your princess insert? I tried a half kettle and it didnt fit. I really dont want to run a seperate humidifier. I was thinking about taking off the top air diverter but I dont know if that would be any good. Any pics or suggestions would be great.

I plan on doing just that this year, right now I dont have a long enough screwdriver with the right head to fit in there. Someone else here with the princess insert left his off and has a kettle on top, I imagine your choices for kettles for water would increase once you get the diverter off.He says theres no difference in performace with the diverter off.

Ok I was worried it wouldn't blow out but instead up without diverted. I thought I read guys not running them but figured I'd see if anyone knew of a kettle that fit.

Don't worry about it too much, a kettle won't make an appreciable difference. They're fun and interesting but they do not accomplish humidification.

+1
You need to get an actual humidifier!

Yep. I put 6-7 gals a day thru the humidifier. Good luck doing that with a kettle.

Im averaging 6 gallons a day myself!

House stays at 25-30% humidity all winter without doing anything. That is recomended humity to keep windows, walls, etc from sweating and molding.

I had a bunch of research papers from a college on all this but the links got erased when I did an update on my phone.

The allergy lady tells me to keep RH under 50% all year to prevent the bugs from growing.

Outdoor Temp Indoor Humidity
-20* 15%
-10* 20%
0* 25%
10* 30%
20* 35%
Over 20* 40%
There is the chart that I got from the research papers. I have it taped on the humidistats in the 2 bathrooms (controls the bath fan). In the summer I'll usually leave it at 50 or 60% though, otherwise the fans will run nearly none stop.
I forget the science behind it, but I do know if I don't follow that chart my windows and exterior doors will start to ice up and even freeze shut. Tightly sealed house and well insulated. Good quality doors and windows.
When I lived in a very drafty house, I could have had the humidity very high and I doubt the windows would have even had condensation. Of course would have been unhealthy still!
