RTV is an option. If the pellet stove is on it may evaporate anyway. But if off i`d worry a little as it will follow that flex-pipe till it drips somewhere making a puddle where you may not want . Nothing should rot though.

Yea, pump it full of silicone. That far up there is no heat at all but if it makes you feel better, you can get 500 and 600 degree silicone at ACE Hardware and others. My termination cap fits directly into the flex where it is RTV'd and screwed in place, I do believe.

Oh yeah to keep bats out of your stove during the off season yes you read that correctly BATS !(had some in my stove 3 years ago)during the off season, cut a 2 liter soda to cap the pipe using the rain cap to hold it fast. Just remember to put masking tape covering the plug end with a note as not to accidentally fire it up.:ZZZ

wow why is there so much ash on the outside of that pipe, are u sure its not leaking somewhere else in your liner.. and thats a ton of ash u got there when i clean mine every ton 25 foot rise never seen it that dirty.

you can cut that liner flush and then tighten that up good and then silcone the heck out of it. and the plate.

is there another flue next to this it could be getting in there also

I had water come down during the storm and fried something in my pellet stove, heard a pop and it hasnt worked since. It was a dealer install, he's coming out next week to check it out.

I dont know why there is so much ash there. The other flue is capped and there is nowhere else water could get in. I've checked everywhere.

I agree ,That liner is a little long that is why you have ash buildup,IMO blowback from that small enclosed cap is not helping either.

What kind of cap would be better , this will only be my second winter with the pellet stove and i've had water issues every time it rains. It also makes the house smell like soot because of the dampness in the fireplace. Also the picture doesnt really show all of the cap,i'll post better pictures tomorrow.

You never even mentioned your vent length? As for Caps. I have seen several like that. They do fine.

You need to seal the gap with high temp silicone. That should stop all water problems.

As for the ash. Fly ash is common with all stoves. But Quads have copious amounts of air through the pot and produce more fly ash farther up in the system. The Mt. Vernon may push it farther than others (Santa Fe/Castille).

Fish On is the one with the 25' liner. Not the OP (farmboy).

I would guess around 25' . Its an old two story farmhouse(ca 1920) but the chimney is fairly new.Im going to seal it up asap but I want the lnstaller to see it first so he knows it was installed that way.

Also what happens when the water actually goes down the liner, does it just dry up when you run the pellet stove, I didnt notice much moisture when i vaccumed out the cleanout. But I did see some moisture trails and minor rust.

is this the same person who installed it and you always had water? what a hack ive never seen
a installer do a such an awful job.

if you can do it yourself take and measure the width and length and cut that pipe flush and install a whole cap, something nice like copper which will weather good and go with your house. stainless is boring. if your all thumbs and its to hard for you

hire a certified chimney sweep not some clown who fixes stoves in a shed who reads a parts book and thinks they know something.

your sweep can order you something good like from copperfield, thats what i used to do.

That`s why i do my own work ,not that i am putting blame on you (you will learn to do things yourself once you get experience + this forum helps)but the company who installed should make it right . If not and i hate to go this route, but if he complains & refuses to back up his work, tell him if shoddy work like this is going on at my install i wonder how long you will stay in business once i get the word out!!! ,then see what happens. if it does not get resolved then tell him you will steer everyone away from you if asked who installed your stove ( it will spread like wildfire )

The cap is not god awful, but it is functional i just feel that its not as open as a large square style ( it will also hood from water infiltration better) + the reason you see a lot of ash (which is normal by the way) is it hits the top of that cap & bounces back onto the end of your pipe. ----The style i speak of & also the one i have on mine is similar to this (it just feel it has more breathability too me) but like i said i would be more worried about the missing caulking----http://chimneylinerpro.com/products/HY%252dC-Black-Stainless-Steel-Single-Flue-Chimney-Cap.html
