Got my GCI60 insert installed last week. I have been running it every evening since just to run it and play around with it but shutting it down before bed. Last night i replaced the mechanical thermostat that came with it with a honeywell programable and let the stove run all night. Last night before i started it, i took it all apart and cleaned it for the first time.... I just went and looked to it and noticed A LOT of unburned pellets piled up in the ash pan!!!!..... Im guessing feed trim it set to high??

Right now the Feed trim, heat level, and combustion trim are all set to 3. Does this sound correct?

My many question is.... how do i change my feed trim and combustion trim??? The book says to hold these buttons and then use the up and down arrows.. but they do nothing. I think you can only change them in manual mod right when the stove is started.... is this correct??? and if so, makes no sense... wouldnt you want to be able to change this whenever???

Also, am i right by saying the feed trim is to high to have a large pile of unburned pellets in my ash pan?

Also.. if i leave all the setting the same except turning the heat level up one, the stove gets very smokey inside....

If you change one setting, do all the other setting need to change also? Or is this where the side damper comes into play?

do you all change setting often throughout the winter or set it at one and forget it?

thank you thank you thank you for any and all input!

is this amount of unburned pellets normal in the ash tray?

I talked to my dealer the other day and he said that having unburned pellets in the ash tray can be corrected by upping the "pellet" quality setting and turning down the pellet feed rate... I played around with this and didnt seem to make to much of a difference.

Pony, This only happens on start up. You get a lot of pellets in the burn pot and you will notice the pot has pellets right to the edge, and before they fully burn the agatater starts to turn and some get pushed over the edge. It does seem to be a lot of pellets. What setting do you have for the pellet quality. I have mine set on premium. You should be able to change feed and comb. settings any time after start up is finished. I dont think it will work during start up. i only have smoke on start up, after that I can make any changes and no smoke.
Nice stove and set up. Enjoy the heat.
