I was thinking, do you suppose our "fresh" cats will be overly excitable for awhile? I'm not too hip on all the extra steps, was hoping I could go from cat engagement to low stat setting without having to make a change every 15 minutes.

You might starve it of air and have the fire go out. You'll have to try it and see what happens? Every stove setup has it own deal that can makes it different. Try different set-ups and see what your results are. If I do the low tstat start up it makes my glass dirty. You'll figure it out.

ok starting to get a few cold nights and the stove is great. I still havent loaded it full yet because it heats up the house pretty quick. I do notice very dirty glass and a light coat of creasote in the corners of the fire box. Could this be because I am burning so low? I would say that I got the tstat turned almost all the way down once the house warms up. Smoke out of the chimney is minimal almost non exisant. Wood is 2 year old maple that reads 15-16 on my moisture meter. I cant wait til it gets real cold and I gota burn 24-7. I put a stove top thermometer and the stove seems to like 550 with the fan on med and t stat in the middle.

If this helps, the instructions on my Lopi indicate one might get dirty glass from either wet/green wood or low burns. At 15%, your wood is not green/wet. My Blaze King is old and has no glass on its door - sorry, can't give you a direct comparison.

Low burn you'll get a dirty glass no matter what. The inside of the firebox will also be an absolute mess. Burn it hot for a half hour or so on reload and it cleans up pretty decent.

I have to say I am very impressed with the stove. It was 19 2 nights ago I stuffed the stove at 7 pm turned it down to about a little above the second dot from the low. I said well I will let it go out so I had good heat all night and I left at 6 am got home from work at 7pm and decided that I was going to clean it until I saw my cat was still active and when I opened the stove It had a nice thick bed of coals. How long do I have to wait for this stove to go out lol? I also want to know where your guys temps are on the cat probe on what setting on t stat. I know they say the cats take a while to break in. On like half on t stat my fan about 3/4 my stove top is 600-650. All in all stove is great!

Looks nice! What are your plans for a hearth extension, it doesn't look like you have the required 16 inches from the front of the stove?

Well hearth is 11 high and six inches from door to edge of hearth. Floor is 85 degrees with stove going.

You need 16 inches of non combustible surface from the front of stove to meet code. I'm surprised it passed inspection without a hearth extension in place.

Good point wife loads it but I think shes more cautious then me. I will look into it thanks.

I want to try my princess above the 3rd dot from the low setting but cat temp is almost pegged when I run it on say like 3.5 fan is on high at this time. I figured cat has to be broken in by now.

Sounds like you have a good set up with that princess insert. Your getting great burn times with you t-stat set at the number 2 dot from the bottom. Every BK insert runs a little differnt, but yours sounds good. I get about 8 to12 hour burn times of good heat. Those coals last a long time but do not provide alot of good heat.

Your hearth is raised, that changes the requirement for fire code.

Sorry for the late response been real busy. Been burning24/7 since thanksgiving stove heats the house with no problem. Im am still not able to run the stove past the 4th dot from the lowest setting. It will peg the cat needle on 4 fan on high stove top at 650. I did dollar bill trick and door is nice and tight. Anyone else have this issue? Also on a side note I put a row of 12" tile in front of hearth. Any suggestions or input would be great.

My insert runs hot all the time also. Runs hotter because its sitting in a brick fireplace. This causes the temp to be relected higher than it really is. I am on season 4 with no problems with the cat wearing out from high 2000 degree temps on my scale. I would not lose any sleep over it.
enjoy the heat. JL
