New LUX TX500E with swing set won't work...did I wire incorrectly????

Is the stat set at a higher temperature + swing than the current temp at the stat?

I have the same stat, So hopefuly I can assist!

That's exactly what we do with our St Croix. We are still not comfortable leaving the stove running unattended, but since we are home most of the time, it's not a big factor.
We have our oil 'stats turned down to 65º. I consider them a backup for when we're gone more that a couple of hours. It does take the stove a while to heat the house back up.

If you have a steady schedule? Just use the stat to do the work for you. Set it to a lower temp about a half hour before you leave and the stove will be off. Then Have it start just before you come home so the house is all warm and toasty! Use the stat to make things easier for you and the family. Its just another tool to play with and enjoy!

My installation is stove in basement and heats all of the house except for really deep cold events

For now I have the factory settings and running Auto OnOff because daytime is still warm enough

Later I will turn to hi-low setting

Hi Ben,

Swing is the temperature difference between where a system comes on and then goes off. EXAMPLE: The stat swing is set at 1ºF, and stat temperature set at 70F. The stat would typically call for heat(turn the stove on) at 69º and go off at 71º. If you increase the swing to 2º the stat will call for heat at 68º and turn the off at 72º

You'll need to check your stat's manual for swing details. Each brand has its own settings(degree of swing). The Lux 500 info is in the quote below. For every number(1) increase the swing will increase 0.25ºF. Example 1 = 0.25ºF thru 9 = 2.25ºF.

To change the Swing setting, turn the dial to RUN mode. Hold down the NEXT
button and push the HOLD button once, then let go of both. The words SWING and
SET will appear on the screen with a number. Use the UP/DOWN buttons to
change the number value between 1 and 9. Number 1 is the default setting. Press
the NEXT button to accept the setting and return to normal Run mode.

I did not realize it worked by 0,25 deg increments

I've set it to 4 now and this already reduced the cycling a lot

With original setting at 1 and stove in auto on-off mode, it would cause the stove to stop (and wait 30 min at idle) and then restart 5 min later.

Starting to like this thermostat (and stove)
even more!

I don't recommend the 9 setting. When you look at the display it will read 68 and you wonder why it's not kicked on since you have it set for 70. That little .25 degree will have you manually hitting the temp button more then you think trying to kick the stove on. Took me a while to figure it out.

I get up at 0415. It is set to turn on at 0400 at 72 and run until girlfriend leaves for work at 0700. Then it is set that at 0700 for temp to drop to 58 to make sure it doesn't run and waste fuel with everyone gone. I get home at 1630 and it turns on back to 72. At 2200 it goes back to 66. Rinse and repeat.


It is easy to tell that all those uncomfortable not leaving the house with stove running did not grow up with wood heat. I just find it odd that with all the electrical current running through a house that cause fires and gas appliances that can leak that people are scared of a fire in an enclosed metal box designed with safety features.
