Icc Excel pipe question

I would say that it is not necessary to change the thimble as long as the ICC will fit through the thimble with no alterations to it.

Don't do it, they are different.

ICC has a mineral blanket for insulation and the Simpson has an air pocket, so right off the bat they are designed differently. So who knows what will happen if you mix and match.

Plus, if anything does happen, you are on your own with the insurance company because you installed it incorrectly (meaning not according to specifications).

I was toying with the idea when I switched to ICC. After much thought, I decided to sleep better at night and spend the extra $60 for the ICC thimble.

The problem was fitting the smaller foot print of the ICC thimble to cover the bigger footprint of the Simpson thimble.

I hear you on being tired about smearing the RTV and still getting smoke.

ICC is an excellent product. Once I switched over I have not smelled any smoke from the exhaust pipes.

Just make sure to use the adapter, and while you have the adapter in your hands before installing, put a big bead of RTV silicone in between the space of the inner and outer pipes. Go all around to make a seal. Let it dry for a couple of days before installing. This is just insurance in case smoke does escape it does not come out from there. Much easier to do it now than when the thing is installed.

But you will notice the difference in the ICC product. The silicone rings are durable and well made. The screws line up and fit nicely. Simple to put together.
