My Advance turned off during the middle of the night yesterday and I thought it was unusual since the temperature was over 5 degrees below what the stove was set to and the "status light" was also off and not blinking. Usually the stove keeps the temperature right on according to the thermometer I have in the room within 1-2 degrees. I normally run the stove in room temperature mode with the igniter switch in auto. Yesterday was the first time I saw the status light off without the mode selector dial set to off. According to the manual, the status light should be lit in either stove or room temp mode unless the mode dial is not within the off position band. I was able to run the stove in stove temp mode and eventually, after adjusting the temperature dial, was able to get it back to room temp mode. I am wondering if this is normal or something is going bad on the unit? I just replaced the igniter last month and the unit has been working great until now. I was thinking I might have a dead spot on the temperature dial since it has remained in that position for a while. Thanks for any thoughts/help. -Rick

Most likely the knobs shaft has come loose inside the pot. The board on the Advance is tough to get to as the hanger pins are on the stove body. unplug it and reach up and remove the board by pulling on the four corners. Once you get it down, reseat the posts into pots. Should solve the issue.

Scott...Thanks for the info. The knob didn't seem to be loose to me but I will check it out tonight the see if that could be the problem. I am still wondering why the status light went out and the stove seemed to shut down. Is the status light supposed to go out when the stove is in auto on room temp mode? I seem to recall that in the past the status light remained on and the stove burn pot was out. Once the temperature demand was met the stove re-ignited and worked normally. Maybe I am wrong about the status light. All the combustion and distribution blowers were off so maybe the status light should go out since the unit thought it should be off?

could also be the potentiometers are wearing out- whats the age on the unit? Ive seen them act up after a certain age- Scott could be right, but usually when that happens (the shaft comes unseated), the knob comes right off in your hand. My money is a bad potentioneter, or possibly a dirty one. Some folks here have replaced pots with ones they find online. Most dealers will replace the board (Harman doesnt sell individual components for their curcuitboards).

I am still wondering about the status light on the Advance. Since I haven't watched the lights cycle for more than a few minutes I thought I would throw this out. The only time I recall the status light going out was when I placed the mode dial to off. Is it normal for the status light to go off when in room temp mode ever? I can find no documentation on the status light other than the blinks as far as it going out during normal operation.

I believe the status light will go out in room temp auto when the room sensor has reach its desired temp. And then the light will go out and begin shutdown. At least that's how mine functions

Lineman...I guess mine is working that way too...I just never noticed after all these years. I assume after the temperature drops again that the unit and status light goes back on. I am wondering if too much time is passing after reaching room temp that my stove is doing a shutdown instead of relighting?

Yup it comes back on when it calls for heat...

Once again last night, the stove went out in room temp, auto igniter mode. The status light was out and the power light was on. That was it. I reseated the lugs to the room sensor which is about 12 feet away from the stove and about 4 feet above the floor. The stove went in to startup mode. I am not sure if that was really the problem or in doing so I shook something else within the stove to get it going. I was about to order a new room probe.

well, your shut down sounds normal. Status light off and power always stays on. Was you stove calling needing to heat the room??....I'm finding out werid stuff as well with my thread bout the accentra not shutting down on room temp auto. My stove was at low burn no distrubtion blower and i pulled a leg off of the room sensor and plugged it back in and it began the shutdown. status light turned off. And my sensor is extended bout 8 feet from stove....
