Can you physically (wo)man handel a 40 lb bag of pellets? every day? i know my gf can't lift it and feed it in to the hopper.
I am a 53 year old woman operating a pellet stove for the first time. I do not attempt to lift a bag of pellets into the hopper. I bought a 1 quart plastic cup and I use this to dump the pellets in until I can handle the bag.

Kara, below is the diagram of my first floor. The stove is in the single story living room, at an angle to the archway leading to the two story portion of my home. the bottom floor consists of kitchen/entry/bath/den and upstairs is 3 bedrooms. I have a Harman P43. I had the dealer come out to take a look at my home. He initially, sight unseen, had recommended a P61 but I had him come to the house. He changed his mind to the 43. My stairway entry to the second floor is beside the bathroom around a corner from the flow of heat from the stove. The thermostat that controls the oil burner is through two doorways from the stove. I have been running my stove at a room temp of 72 and both the living room and the kitchen are a steady 70 degrees. the room where the thermostat is comes in at about 67. enough to keep the oil off set at 60. When i need heat upstairs, i run the stove at a higher room temp and use a fan set high (on a bookcase) to move the heat faster from the living room to the kitchen. the cooler air coming down from the second floor creates enough movement that the warmer air will eventually rise to the second floor. But it takes a few hours to go up one or two degrees. I purchased a corner fan and intend to put that in the doorway of the stairs leading to the second floor as the weather gets colder to assist in moving heat up.

I was as nervous about the investment and whether it would help as you. It is a financial investment! But I do not have a single regret. Yes, the pellets are heavy and I have manually moved over 4 ton into my house. My oil consumption has dropped already as the burner only comes on to heat water for showers, laundry and dishes, etc. I hope this helps. I am not an expert; this is my first year. But I love my Harman P43. If you would like to private message me, please feel free.

I should probably have also mentioned that my first floor is approximately 800 - 900 SF. I shut the door to one bedroom upstairs (which is north facing and gets quite cold) and the other two rooms (which are over the kitchen area)probably total 200SF
