Hello everyone,

I am new to this board. I have a 10 year old St. Croix Pellet Stove, and I am wondering if anyone might know where I might find a hopper extension fo the St. Croix Afton Bay stove. I asked the dealer and he told me that this is no longer available.

My work schedule has changed and I need to add more pellets than one bag to get through the day.

Thanks, so much.

Mike :)

Mike,

I made mine...what stove do you have? I have a St Croix Pepin in the pic here and that's a 19Wx9Dx19H Just a rectangular box made out of 20gauge sheet metal, with a 1'' lip on the top and bottom. To fasten to the stove and for the lid to rest on. And i made the lid 3/4'' bigger on the front so i can open it.

You can get away with 16'' high I neglected to measure a bag before i made it. Any questions don't hesitate to reach out be glad to help in anyway i can.

Hello and thanks for your reply (wow, that was fast!). I have a St. Croix Afton Bay Stove. I'd have to look up the model number. I was thinking of having one made, but wasn't sure if there is another option for me. My hopper opening is approx - 21 1/8" wide and 11 3/4. Again, thanks for your reply.

To be honest I am not sure the pellet community smiles upon the hopper extension idea, I weighted my risks and took what I thought to be a logical approach. I drilled a bunch of holes on the back side of the extension to release any "extra heat" that might build up, but I measured the heat at the center of the pellets with and with out extension and the differential was minimal.

Good luck

Let me know what you come up with Openat60. We also have an afton bay and have come darn close to and occasionally run out of pellets before one of us gets home.

Is your hopper perment msb, or is it just setting on top? Did you take the pellet stoves hopper cover off or just leave open?

If a guy named Don comes on here and says to try using wood to build one, run as fast as you can. !!!

Cardboard would be easier to work with.

I'm watching this thread, since the idea has occurred to me to add a larger hopper, too.

I used 20 gauge sheet metal... Quad and St Croix.

Mine is screwed down to the stove and i left the lid open inside the hopper extension.
