Found a dealer a little over an hour from me that can get the BK from their distributor Even Temp (same distributor BK told me about in Nebraska). They gave me a quote at full retail price and told me that was the best they could do. Princess Ultra with painted door, Air Intake Kit, Double Wall Stainless, misc parts, and install $5,060.71 plus tax. I know it's not the best time of the year to be shopping for stoves but what do you guys think of this estimate?

What is the breakdown? How much for the stove?

The price seems about right as it includes the Install. An install can run you 2+ grand.

How tall will the chimney be? What brand of pipe?

Sounds steep, but I guess it all depends. Chimney install in new construction should be gravy.

Here's the breakdown:

How is $3,000-$3,500 for a princes + $1,500-$2,000 for the install steep?

Haven't we all seen princess stove in this price range in many areas?

Hmmm. Maybe not. The price on that stove is about $750 less than I was quoted two years ago. And the three chimneys I have done were Selkirk.

Buy it.

I was quoted in the vicinity of $2700 for a Princess Ultra here in Northern Mi, just about a month ago. Local dealer.
Doesn't seem like $800 to install is all that bad, but the parts prices are. JMHO
I just happen to be , uh....frugal.

Bought my BK in early November. The Princess Ultra with black door was $2219 with free shipping to my town (about 75 miles).
I ended up with the Chinook 30 for about $50 more. I am close to the BK plant in Canada, but the chinooks are made in the BK plant in Walla Walla; so there's definitely some shipping costs involved.

Your price probably isn't too much out of line because of the extra freight involved ...but I would still make them an offer closer to what I was quoted. You never know!!

~ $5k installed doesn't sound too bad. You'd probably have to DIY the install to save significant $. I have heard that some BK dealers out west discount, but maybe not in Nov/Dec, or maybe you would have to spend a day driving to another dealer and hauling your stove back.

Black Painted Door $314.00
You might want to ask if this is the metal door or the glass door with a black frame. I believe they are the same price. (I'd go with glass, even if it does get sooty.)

3" Fresh Air Kit $101.00
Not everyone wants/needs an outside air kit (see OAK.)
House tightness seems to be the determining factor.

Roof Brace Kit $114.30
(2) 6IN Length 48IN & Fittings $423.00
(1) 6IN Length 36IN & Fittings $162.90
If you DIY, you could save ~ $300 on this class-A pipe @ Lowe's/Menard's. . .probably save a bit on the rest of the chimney stuff too, but not sure how much.

Since you're already using a brace, I would be tempted to make that last 36" piece of pipe a 48" piece to provide a bit more draft. . .other than a few reverse-wound thermostat coils, it seems like any BK performance issues I have read about were draft related.

i pais just under 3 k for the same stove here in new england this past sunday. i think your getting a good price on the stove. couldnt tell you about the pipe though.

Here's my break down of my Princess Parlor this year.

Stove $2192
Black Door $285
Rails $17
Fresh air intake $92
Install fee $350

My double wall stove pipe cost another $200 but I have a pretty short run with 2 ea 45's.

I could of saved some cash doing it myself but was tired of moving heavy stoves around and it was worth it to me to just have the dealer install it. Wisconsin also has a deal where you don't pay any tax if the dealer installs.

* There isnt a discount out west, anything east of the Mississippi has to go through a distributor, if the shop goes through the distributor, ther is going to be a mark up since the distributor makes their cut. Best bet if your close to the Mississippi, go to a dealer west of the river.

* All the doors are glass, you can get a plain black, gold finish or nickel finish, the plain black is the cheapest.

I'm aware of the eastern distribution through Fireside. I spoke with Chris about the "eastern markup" a few years ago. His position was that the stoves were simply selling at full MSRP in the east. . .semantics.

OP is located in Kansas, well west of the Mississippi; that's why I suggested he might be able to find a discount at another dealer, since this one is asking "full retail price."

It was a few years ago when I shopped BK's, but at that time, there was a metal door available for the Princess. . .dunno why anyone would want it, but it's available.
