Hello all,

Brand new to this forum and am thankful for all the information on here. I moved into my home last year and learned quickly that I would need a wood stove insert after $500+ electric bills. A co-worker was kind of enough to give me an old one that he had taken out of his house, and it was free. I cleaned it up and repainted it. Used it last winter and worked pretty well. Would like to know what kind it is though. No brand or label anywhere on it. It works fairly well on my 2200 sq ft home. Also looking for information on how to better transfer heat from living room to the bedrooms down the hallway. I currently just have a fan pushing air over the top and into the hallway. Living room get pretty warm and so does the hallway (Thermostat currently reads 80 degrees in the hallway) but gets significantly cooler down the hallway and in the rooms. Any help would be appreciated. IMG_0450.JPG

Not sure of the brand but by the looks of the pic you may want to put a hearth extender on the floor in front of the brick in case embers fall out. Safety first.

Standard 12" ceramic tile

I would think this should be ok, maybe someone else will offer their two cents. It looked like it could have been wood in the pic and I just wanted you and your family to be safe.

Sorry no help on the id. As far as moving warm air goes, place a fan in the hallway on the floor, on low, blowing toward the stove. Sounds backwards, but it works. It's widely accepted here as best way to circulate warm air...push the heavy cold air out..light warm air will replace it.

Joe beat me to that one, so I'll just +1 it. You might even try the fan at a bedroom door. A lot of people have success with that approach. Heating peripheral areas is hard in any case.

Oh, and if you have a ceiling fan, it can help distribute by running it reversed.

Looks like an old Pre-Epa insert, can't make an ID on it even though it kinda looks like a Blaze King from the looks of the door. Did you hook up a stainless liner to this or just push it into the fireplace?

I just pushed it in. Thanks for the help. Now I have a starting point
