I have been reading and educating myself on this site for some time, very informative, nice bunch of folks. I'm new to this board and I'd like to ask a question please. While doing my weekly cleaning I noticed a gap between the auger tube and burn pot. I could have sworn in the past I had to use a dental pick to pick out little shards of pellets from that gap, it was that tight. Today, the gap appears larger (see red line). (Maybe it's me?)
I did a search on this site for "gap" and found a few pictures, but I could not really make them out clearly to compare to. My question...do I have a problem here? If so, should I stop using it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I'm hoping the picture helps,

[My stove was manufactured September, 2009, and I took ownership (brand new) in October,2010]

Welcome to the forum jimf.

Can you move the burn pot a bit with your hands (stove off and cold of course).

Perhaps a couple of bolts are loose, but I'll leave that up to one of the Harman folks to yammer about.

Actually, I tried that as well as trying to wiggle everything I could reach in the back (fines box inspection plate removed, pushed, pulled, twisted...saw no movement of the gap....nothing obvious.

Update - Shut it down, let it cool off. Checked the four 1/2" nuts on the burn pot....nice and snug. Burn pot has no movement at all.

New guy really need some help here...with all the combined experience of the folks on this forum, no one can help me out with this problem? Surely I can't be the first and only person to have this issue with an XXV? My primary concern is safety, my secondary concern is my dealer....not that great when it comes to service. If I were able to tell him exactly what the problem was it would make things easier.

Jim,

I wish I could help, it is likely from your description of the pot being on tight there is no issue at all.

If there is an exploded parts diagram in your manual set, check to see if there is a gasket in that area, if there is likely you picked some of it apart cleaning out pellet pieces.

I guess the Harman (service folks who visit here, as well as burners) either haven't gotten around to reading this thread or feel they don't have anything to add.

Ok, thank you very much. I appreciate your time!

I just cleaned mine and it looks very similar to your pic I don't think you have any issues there. Hope this helps and Welcome to the forum & Happy Burning

I just looked at mine and it appears to look the same as yours. Seems like its enough of a gap to fit a metal coat hanger, so I can see why you are concerned. From the reports, however, it seems normal.

FWIW - thi is my third burning season with my XXV.

You sir, are much more thorough at cleaning your stove than I am.
The burnpot on my XXV looks just like yours in the picture. Its all solid, nothing moves, wiggles or shakes and there is a slight gap.

And you are going to love these Turmans!

Thank you all! Sometimes you notice things and have to ask yourself "Was that always like that?" As far as the thorough cleaning, yeah I do get carried away sometimes...but you folks have taught me that the majority of problems are due to a dirty stove...great advice!

Thanks again everyone for the guidance!

Folks, as an update, I invited my stove technician over to have a look at the gap. Long story short, this is the fifth XXV he's seen this problem on. My stove is going to his shop next week for an auger tube replacement, fully covered under warranty. So if you XXV owners are noticing a gap between the burn pot and the end of the auger tube, and it's getting wider over time, you may have the same issue. As explained to me, the end of the auger tube is being burned away. I am a bit disappointed as this is only my 3rd. season burning it, and I spent a good bit of money to purchase good quality, however I do realize that machines break down. Just hope I get it back soon.

Thanks for the update ,bummer that the stove has to go in the shop.

Hhhmmmmm, wonder what that means for my stove. I'll have to take another look at it during the next cleaning.

Thanks for the follow up information!
