Ordered my Stainless liner today Got the Flex king pro smooth wall liner kit. Hopefully have it by Tuesday.
Rebuilding the top of my 100 year old chimney this weekend so it is ready for the liner. Hopefully I will have the stove hooked up by next weekend.

Thats GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now if you only new someone how lived close by to help you out. I wonder who that could be???????????? What kind of stove do you have?

The Ashley is for the basement and the Quad for for our new living room if I ever get around to it.

When installing the smoothwall liner pay attention to which way is up. When you look inside the liner you will see that the inside layer wrap is attach on one side of the strip. You will see what I am talking about when you look at it. It appears that the best way to install it is with the attached portions of the strip toward the bottom of the chimney. That way the gases flow smoothly and crap can't get trapped under the inner ply.

Hard to explain in words but you will see what I mean when you look in the liner.
 
Price seems a bit high on the liner. Is this the recommended supplier of SS liners? I'm planning on doing a non-insulated install and am trying to find a SS liner.

The Liner was $615, the $850 included the insulation kit.

I thought that was cheap for a liner of that quality.

Why aren't you going to insulate the liner? It improves performance and makes it safer.

Hi BB,

The guy I spoke to on the phone explained that to me and said it is documented in the instructions determining top and bottom.
I can't wait to get burning, it has been a long time since I have heated with wood.
I don't have trouble getting wood :) and after my gas bills last year I decided to get burning again!

Glad to know he explained it about top and bottom. I didn't buy my double wall from Chimney Liner Depot, wish I had but I didn't know about them at the time, but did buy the single wall one from them. I was really impressed with their product, pricing and service.
 
I'm still new to this, so my comments are questions rather than advice. I thought the insulated SS was much harder to run. Since I plan on doing my own, I wanted to go the easy route.

Hi Fubar,

The liner I got is flexible somewhat. You put the insulation on yourself before inserting the liner. The liner still remains flexible but it does add to the outside diameter. The 6" liner is 6" inside diameter so you need to see how much room you have!

It sounds like southern side of eastern mass..... I'm northern side of eastern mass........... I'm heading to south central mass tommorrow........

Though if I'm correct EH and ELK are much closer than us...
 
fubarr if the chimney does not meet nfpa-211 standards the liner will have to be wrapped the the stove will preform better if you wrap the liner it will allow you to hold flue gas temp. easier and that will make your stove run better you should make sure your chimney is in good working conditions and has proper clearance's to the house before you decide to wrap the liner you should be able to pick up a liner 25 ft starting at some were in the 475 range with the connector's and the top plate and cap the insulation supplies will run in the four range or so as well.

An install party sounds good! EH and Elk are very close. I live in Foxboro! EH is a friend of mine and we work together sometimes.
I have not had the pleasure of meeting Elk though. I can't wait to get that fired up so I don't have to hear my furnace kicking on constantly.

The smoothwall two ply liner he bought is rated zero clearance without insulation. I know because I have it myself. And with a sealed top plate insulated for the top four feet, bottom block off plate and insulation above the block off plate this 21 foot puppy could suck a cantalope up it and spit it out. The draft from it damn near melted my old stove down.

Yeah, Elk is closer, but it isn't that bad for either of us - I'm just south of Lowell, so it's less than an hour for me, probably about an hour for you.

But I thought the idea was to get a bunch of us together to help install stuff, then eat, drink, and admire the pretty flames... I figure anything withing an hour or two's drive is fair game.

Hay Craig I just saw the weather for next week. Cold with a little rain and snow. Perfect weather for working out side. It will be fun up on the roof droping in the liner. I forgot to ask if you put the stove in the basement yet?

I did see that it is supposed to cool off this week! If the roof is icy I will just wear my caulked boots!

The stove is in the basement about 8 feet from where it is going to rest.
