What's a piece of broken dry wall doing in my fireplace?

Noticed a 6" x 3"ish piece a broken dry wall in my Quadrafire. Have no idea where it came from and not sure off it's anything to worry about. My unit is pretty new, only 3 or 4 years old. Can not see anything visibly broken in the fire box.

Thanks,

Could somebody have tried to burn it?
Really strange that is in there.

I don't think it would have come from the chimney.

possible.

I thought about that possibility. Can't believe I wouldn't have noticed but I did burn some odd shaped pieces last week. I'm going to try convince myself that's what happened.

You have some kids..maybe they busted out a piece of drywall from one of their rooms and tried to burn the evidence?
Look in the bed rooms to see if they have a hole the same size..lol.

Baffle board? Hmmm.. I packed some very tight splits last week. In fact, i think I roughed up some baffles. Assuming it is a baffle board, is there need to worry and/or replace?

Thanks,

Oh crap..turns out it might be baffle board and you prolly did it!
Shut her down and look around!
You gota think they didn't just put in there for looks.

I would also shut down and inspect the baffle board.

And stop blaming the kids!

Yup, it's a baffle board. I was able to loosely put it back into place. It's not perfect, though.
