I have been lurking a bit and now have joined - a quick intro:

Have been a fireplace burner since i was a kid and always had a wood pile around the house. I have stepped up and now have an insert, an increasing wood pile and an increasing addiction to burning and obtaining wood! Also bought a new saw - Stihl MS 261.

Two hurricanes have provided plenty of wood in my area. Below is a haul my cutting partner (site member Tbuff - in the pic) and i are working on. Went for the large tree and did not touch it as there was easier wood around for two large trailer loads. Will get the downed tree shortly.

Look forward to contributing to the site.

Welcome to the forums but I think there's a problem with your images

Welcome Gripptide! Pics aren't viewable; nice choice of saw.

Welcome Gripptide! Only a few weeks into burning and this guy is a definite Burn-aholic....

Warm welcome from over the pond!!!!!!

I look forward to seeing the pictures.....:)

Nice wood! Hmmm, that doesn't sound right...nice firewood! There, much better.

You are going to be busy for a while aren't you?

Welcome
Picture looks like a fire wood gold, silver & platinum mine, several varieties :)
Big one will make some nice splits ;)
Awesome score.

I guess that big one is a Tulip Tree, right? That is a lot of wood in one tree. I'd get all the firewood you can while pickin's are easy. It won't ever be easier to get firewood in your area than it is right now.

Welcome Griptide, nice load of wood there, do I see locust on the ground?

Welcome to the forum Gripptide.

Sad to have the hurricane but it certainly left you with plenty of wood to cut. That is also a huge rootball and when you cut it, you no doubt are aware of the danger. Keep everyone away as that can stand up pretty fast. Other than that, have fun!

Thanks for all the welcomes. I am by no means good at identification, in fact poor at it, but there is some locust. Thoughts on the other stuff? Tulip Poplar as mentioned? Maple?

Pickin's have been relatively easy, so we are grabbing as much as possible!

Anyone else think the big one is Norway Maple? I'm not sure sure about Tulip Poplar although I can't say I've ever seen a Norway that big.

Welcome...................Bet your wishing for a bigger saw now! ;)

End does look like norway, it does look very long, could be ash.

Welcome, great to have you, & nice to see the ppe as well. Very nice saw choice. A C

I changed the pics - hope this is right - sorry they are blurry and huge.

A warm welcome coming your way from Ohio too. Only been here a little over a month but have learned a wealth of information and made many new friends. If you want to reduce your photo sizes, but don't have any fancy editing software, just use the "Paint" program that comes with Windows (assuming you are not a Mac user). I've got Photoshop, but use Paint more often as its quick and easy. I shoot with a big digital Nikon and just reduce them down to 20-30% original size for easy internet use. See you around!
