Like Button

A forum upgrade we are looking at has exactly that - BUT, I should mention that the testers don't like it!

The reason being that it "likes" the person, as opposed to the post...or, maybe it likes either or both (have to check)....

People seem to think that liking a person will result in popularity contests...which go nowhere. But I do like the idea of having certain threads and post being marked as better than the average bear!

I have to look further into the upgrade and see exactly which part of the system we can use. It might be that users can suggest a post or thread for "top dogs" (likes), but the mods or other new editors then put the final blessing on it.

It always comes down to what you do with the "likes". If there are 10,000 posts which are liked, it's tough for anyone to get through them....

my thoughts exactly. Not for popularity reasons, but more for a post being of relevance to a subject, or for a good way of doing something, etc.....

While viewing posts today I read many comments which responded directly to the question(s) asked by the original poster. I wanted to tell those who took the time to provide in-depth comments that I appreciated their knowledge and effort. So, I clicked on "like" and sure enough, a note appeared that "You like this post". I wanted the person who provided a detailed response to know that "John_M" "liked" their response...for the same reason as provided by Scotty Overkill in #4 above.

How do I get my username to appear under the "reply"?
