I have a refurbished 10CPM bought and installed in October. I realized I have a leak somewhere because my glass is turning black after a day's use (currently using MWP blend). I've tweaked the lid latch and it closes nice and tight but the front left corner is clearly not snug. The gasket is in good condition and the hopper seals nicely everywhere else. In that front corner you can easily slide a dollar bill in and out without any resistance and if you stand back there is a noticeable gap. Is it possible that the lid is warped and just won't sit right? I am going to call customer service tomorrow but thought I'd check in here first for any suggestions. Thank you in advance for your help.

Yes, lid should be flat and sit flush on the gasket, but I doubt that's the cause of your black window. You do have the air wash plate installed correctly on the front of the burn pot, right? Have you double checked the door gasket seal?
What are your bottom 3 buttons set at? Are you otherwise getting a good burn?

I do have the air wash plate installed. Think it's in correctly but not 100% sure. Door gasket is good. It passes the dollar bill test with flying colors. Bottom numbers are currently at 2-6-1. I am pretty new to the pellet world so I'm not really sure what a good burn is. I know that my glass gets black too quickly and my ash is black as well. Stove has been cleaned thoroughly multiple times and I haven't even burned a half ton yet. Outside air is installed as well. Thank you for your help.

Are you ash traps seated properly? Make sure they are pushed back 100% of the way. Also check to make sure door is being shut correctly and gasket is sealing well.

Ash traps are in all the way and the door is good and tight. Ash pan is also closed up tight. The only obvious leak is the hopper, but I get the sense that you don't think that would cause the glass to dirty up so quick. I also saw on a different thread a picture of what ash should look like. It was definitely lighter than mine. Mine is dark brown or black. Thank you again for your help.

A hopper full of pellets will help the leak of the hopper.

Mine isnt very tight at all. Its another thing on the CPM that I dislike. I dont think it would be the likely culprit. IMO

Ash should be a white to grey color. Sometimes a darker grey. Pellet quality effects this too.

The back of my firebox wall is black, but that's because I paint it every year. Stays black now.

Wow. My ash looks nothing like that. It is much much darker. Right now I'm burning MWP blend which I thought was a decent shoulder pellet. Haven't dipped into my Cubex yet because of the warm temps so far, so I really don't have anything to compare to. I'll try to keep the hopper pretty full so hopefully that will help, but it definitely seems like I'm not getting a good clean burn.

Also, can you describe your exhaust set-up? Lengths, elbows, etc. Also, have you made sure the OAK inlet screen is clean?

Why did you vary the lower three from 1 4 1 to 2 6 1 ? And what variations did you try?
Started at 1-4-1. Changed the LFF to 2 to see if I could get a little more heat. Flame seemed a little lazy so I increased the LBA to 5 for a few days and noticed a slight difference with the flame but no help with glass. Then Increased the LBA to 6 a couple days ago to see if it helped at all. No noticeable change (to me anyway).

3" Excel pipe. Stove adapter, cleanout tee, 48" vertical pipe, 90 degree, 24" horizontal through the thimble, termination cap. I have not checked the inlet screen. I will check that out tomorrow.

Ok now to get more heat I would have tried another heat range all together or even 1-5-1 or possibly 1-6-1.

Does your burn pot sit flat in its receptacle?

Burn pot does sit flat. Am I wrong thinking that increasing the LFF would increase heat, assuming I keep the feed rate constant? I thought more pellets meant more heat. This is all very new to me so feel free to tell me I'm way off. My wife does it all the time.

Yes but you can't change one with out a change in the other unless there is an issue with the air/fuel mixture.

The normal response would be to increase the heat range and room blower setting either or both of these might give you more heat.

Those bottom three get used to trim (correct air/fuel mixture issues) the burn.

I do adjust the heat range and blower to try to get the room temperature to the desired level. I thought that I would see more heat on each particular heat range because the feed rate was higher. I probably got ahead of myself and started fiddling before I had a complete grasp.

Just a thought....Have you checked to be sure you're in pellet mode?

Well it will frequently increase the heat produced until the burn goes to totally south and then the heat level drops and the crud level rises. This is spread to all of the heat levels as well. It is a balancing act..

Good thought. Easy way to tell while it's running is to watch the agitator....in pellet mode, it barely moves on each pellet drop. On corn mode, it moves about 3/8".

Try burning some of those Cubex on lower 3 button settings of 3-6-1 and see if the heat increases.

As for the window, unless your air wash plate is installed wrong, I also get a dark window with certain pellets. Burning Greene Teams right now, and the glass is still pretty clear after 24+ hrs.

Yes. Checked that when I first fired her up. I will check again just to be sure. Thank you for the suggestion.

I will definitely give that a shot. Been dying to try the Cubex. Will probably have to wait a few days. I think it's going to be almost sixty degrees tomorrow.

Going to be cold on Wed./Wed. night.

I get it with most pellets. Somersets are the best I can get and the window stays clean the longest with them. With the Sets' I can usually run a lower LBA and get a little better heat exchange.

Tonight I'm burning Sets' with bottom buttons at 3-4-1. Glass would stay a bit cleaner at 3-5-1 but I choose more heat.

Pretty much any other pellet I can get would require LBA at least a click higher...maybe two.

One last thing....if the hopper lid is really bent, contact Englander....I bet they will send you a new one. Might have to take a pic of it to send them with a straightedge or something like that along the front edge. They are really good at warranty stuff.

I think my air wash plate is installed properly, but I'm not positive. I've got the two little tabs sitting in the little holes at the front of the burn pot. I do get a fair amount of ash piled up on the lip of the window gasket on the door. Don't know if that's normal.
