As most know, I'm not much of a scrounger simply because I have plenty of wood on our own place. However, I saw some prime white oak just going to waste so I asked the neighbor about it. He said for sure I could help myself but he also had a couple big pine limbs that came down last summer so i offered to also take care of those for him. Today we (wife and I) hobbled out together and got the last of the oak. Here are a couple pictures.
This was the first load of white oak we got. It looks bad but is very solid so will be good firewood.
Today we got the last load of the white oak and these 2 pictures are of the entire scrounge. The whiter wood that is stacked higher is the white pine that we cleaned up for him. Those are dry enough they could be burned this year but I won't get them split until next spring.
All together it appears we got close to 2 full cord of wood on this. We are very happy it is done as some of this stuff was really heavy and of course dirty because most had sunk into the ground. It has been many years since that woods was logged. The wood is wet but yet I think perhaps in 2 years that oak might be ready to burn. If not, no problem. It will just wait one more year.
Good observers will no doubt noctice some other wood piles in the background. This is only part of our stash of good firewood.
Now we will hopefully be able to get started on some of our own stuff that blew down last summer and we appear to have a lot of that. Plus I still have a couple decent sized ash down from last winter. they are on the ground but will be fine. I just could not finish last spring because of this dagone bad back of mine. Then this fall I took that bad fall onto my back so I've a request in to Santa for a new back.
