I got hit up with the new $3.95 per month lease fee on my existing time warner internet modem last month. I thought it was a rip off especially since I have to use their combined modem to get my telephone service. I went on Ebay and bought one of the approved internet modems for Time Warner and hooked it up. It didnt require a lot of brains, install one splitter rated for 1000 MHZ on the cable line, then two short pieces of coax from the splitter to the two modems. (for those who dont have phone, the splitter is not needed). Then I called Time Warner technical and gave them the MAC # on the modem. It took five minutes and a reboot of the computer and it was done. I paid $29.95 for a "refurb" modem on Ebay so in about 7 months its paid for.

For those without cable phone, you have to return the time warner modem before they take the lease fee off the bill. For those with cable phone the box remains as a symbol of the cable companies gall in charging a lease fee.

Just wait. From what I am hearing T/W has internet usage pricing in the works so the more you use, the more $$ you pay!! They are already doing it on TV. You will need a box for every set soon they are locking out certain "free" channels if you don't have a digital box for that TV. Dish is looking better & better!!

you're lucky. i have Comcrap and went through hours of resets and hang ups before they figured out how to register my modem. i use VoIP but have my own setup for that too. the less money i give them, the better.
