Burning Hunk

...in one final attempt to make peace with the Encore...if this doesn't work out I'm buying a new stove in the next week or two..If it works out then I'll buy one in a few months hopefully for a better price.

In other news, I fired up the air conditioner this evening. All the time I've spent cutting, splitting, stacking over the last 2 years and I've burned my stove twice so far this year. And once it was kinda just cuz I wanted to more than a need....ug.

Air conditioning in Dec? Wow. I ran the air in my truck once this summer, for @ 10 minutes...;lol

I did my Encore (2550) also this past week since I got my first cracked glass. I replace the one glass and all the gaskets except for the other good glass, I'm thinking I may as well change it to. Only problem is those screws hav'nt moved for 15 yrs. and will have to be drilled out just like the ones I just replaced on the cracked glass. That job was a pain.

Well, the front came through overnight. It's in the 30's right now, supposed to be mid 20's tonight so I'm hoping the house has cooled off enough to at least burn one fire tonight and see how the gaskets work.

Good luck on getting the Encore going. Alot of wind damage going on right now here around Mobile and Gulf Coast. I thought mine (Encore) was the "cat's meow" 15 or 20 yrs. ago but after changing the gaskets and replacing the glass plus finding this forum I beggining to think not so much. But I've got so much money in it plus my wife got me the Dragon Warming Shelves for Christmas. And dealing with the CS was not the greatest experience either.

I regasketed the doors previously but am still leaking I think as I can't really ever control the fire. Replaced the combustor and regasketed the whole thing this year. We inherited the stove with the house and honestly don't care for the looks so we were always planning to replace it but I keep saying "If I could just get through this winter with her then I'll buy one in the spring"....then something else comes up in the spring.

We have the dragons too. I was actually thinking about taking them off but the little mitten rack/hangers double as a poker for me some times so I do like have them right there when I'm loading. ;)

I'm going with a simpler design next time. Alderlea T5/6 or Jotul F55 or something....

I might be a cheap skate but they really gouge you on the replacement parts and things. We get alot of compliments on our stove but alot of maintenance is involved and it seems like once you start fiddling with one problem something else breaks in the process. It was a nightmare changing that glass.

Ya, our stove is pretty if you like biscuit white but we don't. If it was brown I might just deal with the stove but it looks odd with our furniture so it needs to go...but like I said, if I could just get through this year. :)

And amen on the once you start messing with it part...

Don't blame you.....after finding this website it looks like quite a few options on stoves which are more "user friendly" with all or more of the features you enjoy. My Encore is classic cast iron black without the enamel coating, I just paint or polish it every year. If I have another year of repairs like this one I'll also be shopping for a replacement.

Okay, seriously, what plant is that behind the little girl in your avatar, and is your name Seymour Krelborn?

BrowningBAR....thanks for your reply, I've been reading your post and seem very savy and helpful here. I'm not Seymour, my first name is "Bo". That's my grand daughter Lily standing by a "Thai Giant" (Calocasia Gigantea), I live along the Alabama Gulf Coast and I grow tropicals, bananas, palms, elephant ears, and bamboo, all the colder varieties. The Thai Giant is a real show stopper, I get folks pulling off the road and taking pics every now and then in the summer here at my front yard.

In case you missed it, I was making a "Little Shop of Horrors" joke. The plant looked like a massive Venus Flytrap and Rick Moranis' character, that owned the flower shop and the plant, was named Seymour Krelborn.

Just curious, where are ya'll using the thermometer, on the flue or stove top on the VC 2550 and what kind of temps are you staying at with this stove? Thanks
Bo

Center of the griddle for both the Encore and the Defiant.

I try and keep both stoves under 700. The Defiant is a little more difficult to do since it likes to climb even after the air has been shut down.

Thanks for that info. I got her re-gasketed and I think it's worse than before. It's getting air somewhere. gotta let her cool down and make some adjustments.
