Chimney installation on Ebay, LOL

Allot of problems with that install.

Thanksgiving I went up to my uncles house and as I was pulling into his neighbor hood I notice a new wood burning chimney installed wrong

I asked my uncle if he knew the guy and he said yes. I then told my uncle call the guy and tell him it wrong and it going to set his house on fire. He said he will see him at the deli they get coffee at the same time.

Christmas my uncle was at my home and said the guys house caught on fire a couple of weeks ago. I said did you ever tell him it was unsafe, He said he did but the guy said it was installed Daughters boyfriend who works for a stove shop and got quite snippy with him.

i have a question along these lines, somewhere on my street there is a woodstove burning that you can literally smell the creosote in the exhaust, it doesnt smell like a normal woodstove exhaust, have any of you run into a situation that you can smell it? every time i drive that way and smell it im thinking "thats one sick chimney" should i stop in and discuss it with this neighbor of mine, im just looking for guidance here , i'd hate for sombody to have a chimney fire because i didnt check in with him.

I'm pretty sure I know what Mike is talking about. Across the street from me there is a wood burner that spews more smoke than an 18th century coal fired industrial furnace. I have opted not to say anything, as the usual response to such things is to take offense. I see it everyday, I go clean a stove tell the customer it's installed improperly. 8 times out of 10 they look at me blankly and retort with it's been that way for xx years or in some cases months. Thre is always someone they know that said it was ok, ie fireman, uncle jimbob etc. Now maybe the fellow across from me and the one down the street from Mike don't know that there is a problem, if that's the case they are exempt from the following statement. The people who know they have a problem and choose to risk their lives and property completely deserve the fire that's coming.

well see, thats the reason for my asking in here , i do not do that kind of work in the field for a living like some of you guys in here do, and im thinking more in terms of seeing what is going on and maybe suggesting he have it checked out, you know "concerned neighbor" type thing. i would not got in there with the "hey man you are gonna burn your house down" but i have been around woodstoves all my life and it just dont smell right to me. i havent run into this smell from a woodstove chimney before, and thats why im asking , scott , who sits next to me at work just commented , "you know i smelled that too" i'd just hate to not at least mention it to this person if it is a problem and then drive by one day watching the fire dept work, knowing that i could have prevented it.
